WWE Smackdown Wrap Up June 20, 2008 Results

June 25th 2008 05:49
Smackdown! – San Jose, California

This week’s show started with MVP in the ring to talk, a pleasant upgrade from the norm of Vickie Guerrero, or was it? He talked about how he would be happy to go to any other brand during the upcoming draft, and commented how anyone would be able to better use his talents than the current Smackdown! management . This of course upset GM Vickie Guerrero and out she came, accompanied by Ryder and Hawkins. After all the endless talking Vickie made a match between MVP and the ECW Champion Kane.

Back from the break…
U.S. Champion Matt Hardy vs. Bam Neely accompanied by Chavo Guerrero

This was a rather uneventful singles TV debut for Neely. He controlled most of the match with his power. After awhile Hardy took over, hit a swinging neck breaker, but then as he climbed to the top rope Chavo grabbed his ankle. Neely came in and slammed him down from the corner. Referee Charles Robinson makes Chavo head to the back. With help from that distraction Hardy was able to hit the Twist of Fate and get the three count.

Winner: Matt Hardy

After the break…
Chavo is complaining about the ref as he and Neely walk to the back and meet up with Edge. Edge assures him that Vickie will take care of Charles Robinson, and that he will take care of Matt Hardy next week. He does however want Chavo to do something for him, he wants Chavo to face Batista in a match later in the show.

Back to the ring…
Michelle McCool vs. Layla

WWE Diva Michelle McCool image
WWE Diva Michelle McCool is the probable opponent of Natalya for the Diva's Championship.

Layla was controlling the match the whole way. Then out came Natalya to the top of the ramp to watch. Michelle turned it around with a couple of dropkicks and a belly to belly suplex. Layla tried to fight back a couple more times, but Michelle slapped on the Heel Hook and got the submission.

Winner via submission: Michelle McCool

To the back where Vickie was talking with the wedding planner as Edge walks in to talk about his plans for the night. Then in walked Charles Robinson, she wound up putting him in a match tonight with an opponent to be named later.

Back from the break…
Vladimir Koslov vs. Jamie Noble

This was a better than normal Koslov training match. Noble put up a little bit of a fight, at one point applying a Guillotine Choke Submission. In the end though he finished off Noble with a head thrust to the chest as Noble came diving at him off the ropes. He followed that with a pin for the three count.

Winner: Vladimir Koslov

After the break…
MVP vs. Kane

They fought back and forth a bit, taking turns controlling the match. Then Kane his a side slam, a clothesline from the top, followed by an attempt at a chokeslam. Instead MVP was thrown to the outside of the ring and then to the floor. He avoided getting back in the ring and got counted out.

Winner via countout: Kane

Kane then went to the floor and started punching MVP, as Mark Henry headed down to ringside. Henry attacked Kane and threw him back in the ring for the World’s Strongest Slam.

To the back where Chavo is wishing Charles Robinson good luck in his match tonight.

After the break…
Referee Charles Robinson vs. The Great Khali

As Robinson tried to run from the ring Ryder and Hawkins stopped him and threw him back into the ring. Khali hit a clothesline, went for a pin, but pulled him up. He hit him with a headbutt, pulled him up from a pin again. Then he hit him with the chop to the head, and then squeezed his head.

Winner via submission: The Great Khali

They carried Robinson off on the backboard.

After the break…
Jesse & Festus vs. Deuce & Domino

D& were arguing on their way down to the ring, the same way they were as they left the ring last week. The match started with Festus taking control. Soon after the match started D& were outside the ring fighting with one another. Deuce threw Domino back into the ring for Festus to feast upon. Festus quickly got the three count.

Winners: Jesse & Festus

After the match was over Deuce came back into the ring and leveled Domino with the big running boot he usually uses to put a match away. I do believe the team is officially broken up now. Yayayay!

Back from the break…
Finlay accompanied by Hornswaggle vs. The Miz accompanied by John Morrison

Morrison went to do commentary. The highlight of the match was probably Mick Foley’s commentary. Near the start of the match he said to Morrison, “Obviously you’ve done a lot of work on the abdominal section in order to be able to grate cheese for your vegetarian omelets, but do you have a special set of lower back exercises that enable you to carry Miz during your tag matches?” Morrison would get up and go after Horny to distract Finlay, but after Horny hit Morrison in the knee with a long-handled shillelagh The Miz was the one distracted. Finlay got the pin.

Winner: Finlay

After the break…
Batista vs. Chavo Guerrero accompanied by Bam Neely
After Batista came down to ringside Vickie came out to announce the replacement referee for Charles Robinson who was supposed to be the referee. The special guest referee is Edge. If Batista touches him he will lose his title shot at Night of Champions.
Edge did very little to hide his blatant one-sidedness. Going as far as tripping Batista at one point. Edge then tried giving Chavo quick counts, but he could still only hold Batista down for a two-count. Bam Neely pulled Batista to the floor and Edge delivered the quickest ten-count in history.

Winner via countout: Chavo Guerrero

After the match Batista came back into the ring and hit a Spinebuster on Chavo. He then turned his attention to Edge briefly, before he could do anything Ryder and Hawkins were in the ring. He took each of them out with a clothesline. As he turned Bam Neely hit him with a clothesline. At this point La Familia began their assault on Batista. A double DDT, a Frog Splash, and then a Spear.

This was possibly the biggest waste of a two hour Smackdown! yet! In the end for me it was all worth it, knowing that Deuce & Domino are no longer a team. Hopefully the draft will shake things up enough to bring Smackdown! back up to where it should be. One huge step in the solution is losing Vickie Guerrero as GM. I know McMahon wants her to earn her contract, but let her do something behind the scenes. Have Edge leave her at the altar at their wedding, which causes her to go into a depression and stay out of the public eye. I am sure there are plenty of jobs she can do on the show.
