WWE Raw Wrap Up
May 20th 2008 12:48
Raw from KC, Missouri
Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga
For the second straight week.
Winner: Double Count Out
Batista confronted Chris Jericho in the locker room to discuss their match later in the night. After the break GM King Regal was in the ring to announce Hardy vs. Umanga in a falls count anywhere match at ECW's One Night Stand PPV on June 1st. He then spoke to Randy Orton & JBL which he was putting into a tag team match with Triple H and John Cena. If Orton and JBL could win the match they would each receive a Judgement Day rematch against each of their opponents, and get to choose the type of extreme rules match they will be in. If The Game and Cena could win they would face one another at the PPV with Regal choosing the type of match. Next Mr. Kennedy came out to challenge Regal again. Regal stopped him and said the next person to interrupt him will be fired on the spot. . .(dramatic pausing here)
Cue Mr. McMahon's music. Down came the boss to the ring. He reminded Regal about him giving him 100% power, and went on to point out that viewer complaints are at an all time high. He also pointed out that the minute by minute ratings drastically drop when Regal is on-air. The Chairman then made a match between King Regal and Mr. Kennedy Kennedy, the loser of the match would be fired.
Melina came down to ringside next to give The King and J.R. a near coronary after she did her split on the announce table, she then sat to commentate on the upcoming match.
Beth Phoenix vs. Maria
This match started off all about Phoenix's strength, then Maria took over using some speed. The match then turned quickly as Phoenix caught Maria in the corner and hit her with her Glam-Slam, and then put her in an unusual submission hold which made Maria tap almost instantly. After the match Melina took off up the ramp, taking her boot off along the way, and jumped Beth Phoenix from behind. Phoenix flipped her off her back onto the steel entrance ramp and then walked away.
After the break the announced that tonight would mark the return of Piper's Pit on Raw.
Shawn Michaels went and visited with King Regal in his office. It didn't turn out so well though. Regal told Shawn he would be in a stretcher match at One Night Stand with the winner of the Batista - Jericho match tonight. By this point it was entirely clear that ECW's One Night Stand would have very little to do with ECW.
Batista vs. Chris Jericho
This match went back and forth a little, but Batista controlled it most of the way. When Batista tried to whip Jericho from one corner to the other it seemed Y2J's knee gave out as he collapsed in the middle of the ring. When they came back from commercial the match had resumed with Batista still controlling things and Jericho seemingly not being able to put any weight on his knee. Jericho pulled down the top rope which sent a charging Batista to the outside. When Batista landed he was now holding his knee. He came back into the ring and ran into an onslaught from Jericho who went right after the injured leg. Jericho went out of the ring and upon returning ran into a big boot from Batista. Batista then hit him with a spinebuster and attempted to set him up for the Batista Bomb, but Jericho reversed it and got him into a single-leg Boston Crab. Batista made it to the rope, but not before some damage was done. He hit Batista with another chop block then went for the Lionsault but missed. Another Batista Bomb was blocked, then Jericho went to the top rope and was met with a clothesline as he came down. Batista waited for Jericho to get up to hit him with a spear, but Jericho side-stepped him, sending him into the steel ring post. Jericho attempted to hit the Codebreaker, but Batista caught him and turned it into a Batista Bomb followed by the three count.
Batista will now move on to the Stretcher Match at One Night Stand against Shawn Michaels. Michaels came out onto the ramp and stared into the ring after the match.
Back from break... Mr. McMahon comes in to talk to King Regal while he is warming up. In the background there is a knock at the door . . . (another dramatic pause from me) In walks The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase. McMhaon asks Regal if he can use his office to talk some business with DiBiase.
Then we go back out to ringside for Piper's Pit. Only thing is, it is really Santino in a kilt and a stuffed shirt. He then rolled the clip of Piper being at Jimmy Kimmel's cousin's birthday party in which Santino interrupted, which ended with Santino being attacked by Cousin Sal. Santino said since it was his Pit of the Piper that he was going to call out his guest, Cousin Sal. Sal did a good job going back at Santino's jabs, including saying that Maria told him that he was "hung like a fourth grader". This prompted a brief appearance by Ron Simmons on the titantron to simply say the one word he is now synonymous with, "DAMN!". Santino then demanded an apology and unveiled a cake that said "I'm Sorry". He warned Sal that if it wasn't a good apology that the cake would make its way to his face, and picked up the cake. In walks Rowdy Roddy Piper behind him. Cousin Sal smashed the cake into Santino's face, and then Piper throws him from the ring. piper than accepted Santino's challenge for a match... with Cousin Sal.
General Manager King William Regal vs. Mr. Kenedy
This match was a toss up at the start, but then Regal grab a mike and announced it was now a no disqualification match, and then grabbed a pair of brass knuckles. That is when the match turned, but not for Regal, for Kennedy. Regal swung the knucks, Kennedy kicked him, then hit him with a reversed side Russian leg sweep. One.. Two.. Three. Regal loses and will now be fired. He stood in the ring dejected as the fans chanted.
Winner: Mr Kennedy
When we got back from break Regal was knocking on the door of his former office, out walked Teddy Long.
Randy Orton & JBL vs. Triple H & John Cena
JBL and Orton controlled the match early until Triple H got the tag to Cena. He came in and took over, up until JBL came in to break his momentum. With both men down the count started, Cena was up first and dove for the tag, while Orton also made the tag. Triple H came in refreshed and seemed to have everything under control. Cena then had JBL in the STFU, but Orton kicked him in the head which led to JBL pinning him.
Winners: Randy Orton & JBL
They then grab the microphone to announce what their matches at One Night Stand would be. JBL chose a First Blood match, while Randy Orton chose to try and get the title back in a Last Man Standing match.
It was a pretty good show overall, which had some PPV quality matches.
Match of the night: Probably Batista vs. Jericho, but I am going to choose Regal vs. Kennedy because it means we are rid of Regal for awhile and will get either Teddy Long or Ted DiBiase in return. Now that's a win-win scenario.
Tune in tomorrow for the ECW Wrap Up
