WWE Raw Wrap Up 6-2-08
June 4th 2008 10:10
Raw – From Bakersfield, California
The show started off with WWE Champion Triple H coming to the ring to talk about how much easier it is to be banged up when you are still Champ. He also confirmed that Randy Orton has a broken collarbone. He then went on to say he isn’t sure who is next in line. As he did John Cena’s music played and down he came to make his challenge for the WWE Title. As Triple H was essentially accepting the challenge when Jeff Hardy’s music started as he headed down to the ring. Obviously he wanted back into the title picture where he was prior to his suspension. Triple H told them to work it out amongst themselves as to who would get the title shot. Jeff wanted for the first time ever to have a one on one match with John Cena. Then Mr. McMahon came on the Titantron and said he had an idea. . . why not for the first time ever don’t they have a match between John Cena and Jeff Hardy with the winner getting the title shot at Night of Champions. Of course it was the same idea, but McMahon had to thin he came up with it. So, that match was made for later in the night.
After the break…
Mr. Kennedy Kennedy vs. Paul Burchill
Wait, Burchill won’t be wrestling. He needs to go help his sister Katie get ready for her first ever match on Raw, but he found a suitable replacement. Out came the Samoan Bulldozer Umaga, complete with his entire midsection wrapped after his match with Hardy last night.
Mr. Kennedy vs. Umaga
Umaga controlled the match right from the start, until a chop sent Kennedy to the floor near the announce table. Umaga would then climb out onto the ring apron and leap down at Kennedy, but he missed and Umaga crashed into the announce table. He would end up being counted out of the ring.
Winner: Mr. Kennedy
As Kennedy stand in the ring Burchill came running down and hit him with a chop block.
Back from the break…
McMahon came out to the ramp with details on his McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania. He then introduced “$1 Million” which was being carried in a clear plastic case by an armed security guard, and accompanied by more security. He then explained how all you need to do is go to WWE.com to register to win. So when you are done reading this go there and enter. He went on to say that it is all about getting people to watch. He still claims he will be giving away the million dollars next week on Raw, so good luck to anyone who enters.
After the break…
Carlito & Santino Marella vs. Tag Team Champions Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes
Before the match begins Cody grabs a mic and points out they can’t start because there is no timekeeper, but that is because there is a special timekeeper for this match… Cue the bagpipes! It was Rowdy Roddy Piper. Carlito and Santino took control early with frequent tags, and Cody tried to battle back a few times with no luck. Then finally he moved out of the way of a flying knee drop from the top ropw and got the tag to Holly. Holly took over right away. As Santino bounced off the ropes Piper grabbed his foot. The distraction allowed Holly to get him up into position for The Alabama Jam, but Carlito came in with a kid to the midsection which allowed Santino to roll him up for the pin and the three count.
Winners: Santino Marella & Carlito
After the break…
In the back Santino and Carlito say how they are weiners...well winners depending on which one you ask. In came Todd Grisham for an interview. Santino points out that not even Roddy the Piper can help Cousin Sal. He then pulled out a piece of paper and said that in honor of Sal’s cousin Jiminy Kimmel he has created his own top ten list, the Top 10 ways that Santino Marella is going to destroy Cousin Sal. Todd interrupts to point out that the Top 10 List is a David Letterman thing, not Jiminy Kimmel’s. He then said, ok how about this headline… Todd said nope that’s Jay Leno. Next he said ok how about this Cousin Sal, all your family wil there in the front row ::makes hand puppet motion::: “For me to poop on”. Todd points out, “no, that’s Conan O’Brien.” Todd then ended the interview gracefully.
Now to the locker room with Hardcore and Cody. Hardcore is upset that Cody didn’t mention Piper would be at ringside, and that he was upset they lost even being a non-title match, and said he should run things by him as the veteran of the team. After Holly leaves in walks Ted DiBiase the younger to explain how “We Dibiases, always get what we want,” and went on to say he is about three weeks away from choosing a partner and then becoming the new tag team champions.
Now for comments from Chris Jericho about what he was doing out there talking to Shawn Michaels during the stretcher match at One Night Stand. He didn’t say much other than he respects HBK. Then he talked about how he hasn’t defended his Intercontinental Title enough, but that was al going to change starting tonight when he is defending it against JBL.
Intercontinental Title Match
JBL vs. Champion Chris Jericho
Out came JBL whose neck was very bruised from the chain he had wrapped around his neck Sunday night. The match went back and forth again and again, nothing really exciting. I think I figured out why the JBL –Cena matches have been rather boring, the common denominator, JBL. JBL finally started to take control, but then the action went outside to the floor where he went to get a chair. The ref tried to stop him but was shoved out of the way. This prompted the ref to disqualify JBL. H ethen turned while still holding the chair and was met with a kick to the back of his head which bent him over and drove the chair into his throat. Jericho then grabbed the chair and again stopped short of smashing it over JBL’s head just like he did last week while facing Shawn Michaels. He then left JBL sitting on the floor bleeding from the mouth again.
Back from the break…
Tag Team Divas Match
Beth Phoenix & Katie Lea Burchill vs. Melina & Mickie James
Melina limped to the ring holding her back. Mickie and Katie Lea started off the match with Mickie controlling things till she tried to make a tag to Melina who was intently staring at Phoenix outside the ring. As Mickie turned back to Katie she took a knee to the midsection. Phoenix tagged in soon after and Mickie got the upper hand back. At this point Melina was screaming to be tagged into the match so she could get her hands on Phoenix. When she got in the ring she charged at her and just started pounding on her. They would fight to the outside where Phoenix would take over again. Mickie would then get tagged back in and go wild taking out Katie Lea and Phoenix on the ring apron. As she tried to go for her DDT Katie shoved her off and Phoenix came in fro behind and hit her over the head. Katie Lea would get the pin on Mickie.
Winner: Katie Lea & Beth Phoenix
Paul Burchill was walking down the ramp to congratulate his sister as Mr. Kennedy jumped him from behind and fought their way into the ring before Burchill would retreat back up the ramp.
Back from break…
With the million dollars still sitting on the stage in a plastic case the competitors for the next match came out. . .it was Cryme Tyme, they got a bit distracted by the money, money, yeah, yeah. Well, they didn’t have a match coming up next, they just came out to be near the money.
Lance Cade vs. Trevor Murdoch
Both came out in new ring attire, it didn’t take long for them to try and establish their own identities. Murdoch grabbed a mic and sang a quick song before the match. The action went right to the outside of the ring where Case took control by sandwiching Murdoch’s head between his knee and the ring post. Murdoch turned it around with a knee lift and then started pounding on Cade. Murdoch went to the top rope but was met with a fist to the midsection as he came down. Cade then hit him with a Sit Out Power Bomb into a three count.
Winner: Lance Cade
Before the commercial there was a commercial…it was for a DVD collection chronicling the career of The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment, The Rock. It comes out next week if you are interested. It includes 19 of The Rock’s matches and much more.
After the break…
In the back with Mickie James seeing the trainer, and in walked John Cena to apologize about people misunderstanding their relationship. He then says she left something behind last night, and hands her a leopard print thong. She walks off to see the doctor embarrassingly. Cena then took a drink of his Mamajuana bottle that Mike Adamle gave him last night.
Before the break we see Triple H in the locker room in his full wrestling gear.
After the break…
Jeff Hardy vs. John Cena
Right after the match started a fan jumped into the ring, security was right behind him and the ref assisted in getting him out of the ring. The camera shifted quickly so as not to give him any TV time, that would just encourage more idiots to do it. Security had the fan on the outside of the ring, but they paused the match till things got under control. Cena and Hardy coulnd’t help but laugh and got the crowd cheering even louder. Apparently it was a streaker! Hardy took control for the most part, other than one or two short spurts of offense from Cena. Cena went out to the floor, Hardy launched himself over the top rope onto him. Then they put in a commercial. . . back from the break… Back inside the ring and Hardy is still in control. Cena turns it around with an Irish Whip followed by a suplex and two count. He would then charge into the corner but miss and get hit with a clothesline and two count. Cena then hit the Blockbuster and tried for another pin, just a two count though. Hardy would hit a face first suplex and then head to the top for his Swanton Bomb, Cena rolled out of the way sending his already battered body crashing to the mat. Cena went in to his flurry of offense that leads into his Five Knuckle Shuffle, and then waited for Hardy to get up so he could hit him with the FU. Hardy used elbows to the head to escape the hold though. Hardy took over again and got a two count. He then hit him with the Whisper in the Wind and got yet another two count. He got Cena down again and went to the top rope, Cena got up and was waiting. Hardy hit him with a flying cross body block. The momentum rolled them over together Cena stood up still holding Hardy. He then hoisted him up onto his shoulders and hit the FU, and got the three count.
Winner and new number one contender to the WWE Championship John Cena
Triple H’s music came on and out he came. Cena walked up to meet him on the top of the ramp. They exchanged some words as the show went off the air.
All the filler matches are still annoying, but the Cena – Hardy match was very good, that might just be because it was the first time they have ever had a match together. Katie Lea Burchill needs some more training, they need to get DiBiase into action sooner than three weeks from now, and Cryme Tyme needs more show time. Maybe we can ship all the tag teams off to one show and have an actual tag team division.
