WWE Raw Wrap Up 5-28-08

Raw from the Pepsi Arena in Denver, Colorado

As always the Memorial Day episode of Raw was dedicated to all the U.S. Troops that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The show started with Vince McMahon from the commissioners office in the back telling us how he will show us all appreciation by the end of the night, "even if I (he) have to do something that has never been done in the history of television." He also pointed out that he would be asking the WWE Superstars for some ideas throughout the show.

Out to the ring we go for a "face-off" between Triple H and Randy Orton who will be facing each other in a Last Man Standing match at One Night Stand this coming weekend. After a ten minute plus discussion between the two Triple H walked from the ring with belt in hand and the fans chanting his name.

After the break...

J.R. announced another match that had been added to the One Night Stand PPV, Beth Phoenix vs. Melina in an I Quit Match, while Beth was out there as guest commentator.

Jillian Hall vs. Melina

This match started off with Jillian talking about the ONS match, saying how between the two of them Melina has "No Chance In Hell", and began cackling out Mr. McMahon's entrance music.

This match only lasted a couple minutes with Melina controlling much of the match. Melina would make Jillian tap out.

Now to the back where Mr. McMahon was talking with Chris Jericho. His idea was a rematch between him and Shawn Michaels for later in the night. McMahon gave him the match. Then Jericho suggested an updated version of the Chairman's entrance music. Maybe a rock or scat version. Cryme Tyme then walked into the office of former Raw GM William Regal who was "fired" last week. Apparently it was tyme for an auction, and auction that would include Regal's framed pictures of the queen and others hanging in his office. The auction was held during the commercial break, with an appearance by Ron "Damn" Simmons.

Update from last week: William Regal is actually serving a suspension for violating the WWE Wellness Program, more specifically the drug portion of the program.

After the break...

Billy Kidman & Brian Kendrick vs. Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly for the World Heavyweight Tag Team Championship Titles

Kidman & Kendrick got the title shot after beating the champs in a non-title match on Heat. Kendrick and Kidman started off quick, but the champs soon took control. Kidman got tagged in and sped up the tempo of the match which led to two near falls. However, Holly caught Kidman in position to hit him with the Alabama Slam. Holly gets the three count.

Winners and still Tag Team Champions of the World, Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly

As the match ended some familiar music began to play. . .

The Million Dollar Man, Ted Dibiase's music! He started by congratulating them on their win, then told them their days as Tag Team champs were numbered because he and Mr. McMahon made a deal last week, and he wanted to be the first to introduce them to the newest member of the WWE roster. . . (really dramatic pause here)
His son! Ted Dibiase. The younger Dibiase then took the mic and put the champs "on notice". He then pointed out his dad was a three-time tag team champion and then guaranteed that he would be come a champion in his first match. Next came what is sure to be his catchphrase, "Everybody has a price, but I am simply priceless." Finally a new guy with the body of a Randy Orton and the old-timer attitude like The Million Dollar Man. At first glance I think he will be a great WWE Superstar. One thing I would like to reiterate from a previous article. Multi-Generational stars do well in wrestling,

Back from the break...

Time for Cousin Sal's training session to prepare him for his match against Santino Mirella. Jimmy Kimmel stopped by to watch Sal get abused by Rowdy Roddy Piper. It ended with Sal in a sleeper hold and Kimmel drawing a mustache and other things on Sal's face.

Now Mickey James visits with Mr. McMahon to share her idea. IT was schools send in tapes explaining why they love the WWE and Raw. The winner gets a WWE Diva for a day. In walks JBL to shoot down her idea and propose his own idea. JBL's idea is actually a great one, and I am sure will be done because as Cryme Tyme would say, it's all about that money, money, yeah, yeah. His idea, sell ringside memorabilia, like the wrestling mat cut into pieces. He went on to specify the pieces with Cena's blood on them.

After the break...

A few video taped messages from troops overseas.

Jeff Hardy & John Cena vs. Umaga & JBL

Cena and Umaga start off the match. For some reason 10 seconds into the match Cena tries to lift the Samoan Bulldozer into the FU, it fails, and Umaga takes over. Almost as quickly as Cena's FU attempt was the commercial break. After the break, Cena gets the tag to Hardy who takes right over against Umaga, until he is shoved from the ring apron by Umaga. JBL would ram his lower back into the ring while Umaga distracted the ref. They kept control of the match and Hardy. Hardy would turn it around by using the Whisper in the Wind and then got the tag. A refreshed Cena came in and took care of both competitors, hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle, then got hit by Umaga. Hardy made a blind tag and climbed to the top. he would miss the Swanton Bomb. JBL would then hit the Clothesline From Hell and get the pin.

Winner: Umaga & JBL

Into the back, time for Shawn Michaels to doubt the boss, McMahon says by the end of the night he will show Michaels that he is sincere.

Mr. Kennedy Kennedy came out to bask in the glory of getting Regal "dismissed".

Mr. Kennedy vs. Carlito

This match was rather uneventful. It went back and forth for a little bit, till Kennedy hit Carlito with the Mic Check and the pin.

Winner: Mr. Kennedy

Out came Katie Lea Burchill, as she talked about how some people liked the job Regal was doing and that there would be repercussion out came her brother Paul Burchill to attack him from behind and leave him laying in the ring. Anyone else actually miss the pirated get-up? It would be better now with Katie Lea also dressed up as a pirate wench.

After the break...

We see Trevor Murdoch singing his country version of No Chance In Hell. McMahon dispatches him to tell everyone they have to be at ringside later.

One Night Stand match previews, then back to commercials.

Back from the break...

More video messages from troops overseas.

Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels

This match started with some fast-paced action which turned into one counter-move after another. After the break, Jericho had taken control. As he went to hit a bulldog HBK shoved him off into the corner ropes. Michaels would hit the inverted atomic drop, then come off the ropes with a flying forearm. Michaels would nip up, but before he had a chance to do anything Jericho was up and grabbed him to put him in the Walls of Jericho. Michaels blocked it, Jericho tries for the Lionsault but misses. then he tried to hit him with the Codebreaker but Michaels held onto the ropes to block it. HBK then missed Sweet Chin Music and Jericho got him in the Walls of Jericho this time. He got to the ropes for the break. Jericho then kicked him again and again. Both men go to the outside where Jericho puts him in the WoJ again. the ref counts them both out of the ring. He breaks the hold, then puts him right back in it again. The ref broke it up, and Jericho grabbed a chair and was going to hit HBK with it but hesitated and thought better of it. He put out his hand to help Michaels up, then threw the chair down and walked away.

After the break...

The entire Raw roster is out at the top of the entrance ramp, out comes Mr. McMahon. His announcement, in four weeks on Raw there will be the 2008 Draft. He goes on to say something I stated earlier (and if you knew that I wrote this entire article as the show went along, and DID not go back to edit that in, you would think I am a genius, or I have just watched wrestling WAY too long.)...he said, "It's al about the money!", yeah, yeah, I was right. Although, now he says he is going to give away money each week on Raw. Points out it is not a hoax, and each week he is going to give away one million dollars of his own money.

Well that is an interesting twist to things! We'll have to see how it turns out.

Well I criticized TNA last week for having so few matches and too much talk, well Raw had five matches tonight, none of which were really good matches. The show was mostly talk and things other than in ring action, but there were some good moments. For me the highlight of the show was the introduction to the younger Ted Dibiase. I am half expecting, and totally hoping that his tag team partner is introduced next week. . . Please welcome, Mike Rotunda, Jr.! Well, we can hope.

Tune in tomorrow for the ECW Wrap Up.

Also this week we should be starting our Classic Pay-Per-View Wrap Ups. We will start where today's "Sports Entertainment" got its start. The original Wrestlmania.
