June 28th 2008 21:49
ECW from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas
The show starts off with Teddy Long in the ring talking about McMahon’s “accident”. He then introduced ECW newest roster member that was acquired in the draft, Matt Hardy.
U.S. Champion Matt Hardy & C.M. Punk vs. WWE Tag Team Champions John Morrison & The Miz
Hardy and Punk controlled early until a double team by the champs, but The Miz couldn’t keep control for long. Hardy got the tag to Punk who took over with his kicks. After Morrison came in to try and interfere again, so did Hardy. They each charged a corner one with Miz in it, the other with Morrison in it, Hardy hit a clothesline, while Punk connected with a knee. Then they both hit running bulldogs and met in the center of the ring as they high-fived one another in mid move. Punk then missed a shot from the top rope and when he went to bounce off the ropes Morrison held them open so Punk would fall through and to the floor. Back from the break… Miz was in control, they kept control using double team after double team. Punk finally fought out and got the tag. Hardy came in with a couple clotheslines and then went to the top rope. He came crashing down on Morrison with an elbow and went for the pin, but only got a two-count. He then hit the Side Effect into a pin, but Miz broke it up. Punk came in and clotheslined Miz over the top rope. Hardy went for the Twist of Fate but was shoved off into the ropes where Miz grabbed his feet to trip him. Morrison hit a springboard roundhouse kick to the head and went for the pin, but Hardy kicked out at two. Hornswaggle came out from underneath the ring to distract Miz, Punk hit Miz, sending him off the apron to the floor. Morison came in after Punk, but Hardy stopped him and hit the Twist of Fate. Hardy got the three count.
Winners: Matt Hardy & C.M. Punk
After the break…
Extreme Rules Match
Shelton Benjamin vs. Kofi Kingston
They went back and forth a bit, but then Kofi hit a high dropkick which sent Benjamin to the floor, nd then slingshotted himself out onto him. Benjamin battled back on the floor, hitting him with a mic to the head, he then whipped him face first into the steel ring steps. Shelton then went under the ring for the trash cans, and a chair. He rolled Kofi into the ring, then hit him in the ribs with the edge of the chair. He then lifted him high for a Gorilla Press and slammed him down across his knee for a Gutbuster. He then threw one of the trash cans at him, and wedged a can between the top and second ropes in the corner. Kofi tried to battle back, but Benjamin used the can to hit Kofi a few times. Then he suplexed Kofi onto one of the trash cans. Benjamin then tried to wear him down with a waistlock from behind, but Kofi battled out. Benjamin sent him into the corner and hit a couple of splashes, but as he charged in a third time Kofi hit him in the head with the first of about five shots with the trash can lid. Kofi then went after the chair, but as he swung it back Benjamin delivered a kick to his ribs. Benjamin then got him up for a Powerbomb, but Kofi reversed it and sent Benjamin head first into the trash can that was wedged between the ropes. He then hit him with the Trouble in Paradise spinning roundkick to the back of the head, and got the three count.
Winner: Kofi Kingston
Back from the break…
They reviewed the Draft, and then previewed Night of Champions, then went to another commercial.
Really back from break this time…
Mike Knox vs. Evan Bourne
They sort of fought back and forth, with Bourne trying to use his speed, and Knox his power. Knox got the upperhand. Bourne hit a couple of chop blocks on his knee, and a missle dropkick from the top rope, followed by a hurricanrana. As he came in with a running heel kick Knox caught him and slammed him down across his knee with a brackbreaker. He then hit him with that sort of swinging faceplant move, and got the three count.
Winner: Mike Knox
After the break…
Out came The Big Show to do commentary.
ECW Champion Kane vs. Mark Henry
These two behemoths fought back and forth both using their power. Henry got Kane in a bear hug, as Kane tried to battle out with forearms shots he was driven back into the corner. Henry then charged in but was met with a big boot. After a couple of uppercut shots Kane went to kick him in the mid-section, but Henry caught his foot, and Kane hit an Insiguri kick to the back of his head. He went in and got a near fall, and then climbed to the top rope, but Henry ran into the ropes to knock him off balance. Kane would crash down to the mat where Henry picked him up for the World’s Strongest Slam and got the three count.
Winner: Mark Henry
It was the typical show leading up to a pay-per-view. The Hardy – Punk tag team was pretty good, but other than that it wasn’t a very good show. I still don’t see why Mike Knox is on a WWE roster. He and The Miz should make a tag team and wander off into some Independent. Mark Henry beating Kane was a nice way of working him into a triple threat match for the PPV.
I am not exactly sure what the draw of the show is going to be with no Punk or Kofi. Show as champ, and Evan Bourne aren’t going to be enough. Especially with Mike Adamle as Tazz’s sidekick.
