WWE ECW Wrap Up July 8, 2008 Results

July 11th 2008 06:30
ECW – Baton Rouge, Louisiana

The show started with something worse than Vickie Guerrero in the ring to talk, it was John Morrison and The Miz. I was astounded that they started off with jokes about hurricane relief. It was ridiculous to go into that area and joke about things like that. Finlay came out and interrupted. While he distracted them Hornswaggle came out from under the ring and climbed into the ring behind them. When they turned around he sprayed them with a super soaker.

After the break…
Teddy Long apparently made a match between The Miz and Finlay which was about to take place.

The Miz vs. Finlay

I so dislike The Miz! The match wasn’t very exciting at all. Near the end Morrison ripped the shillelagh out of Finlay’s hand, but Hornswaggle ran along the apron and kicked him in the head. Miz grabbed Horny and dragged him into the ring, he ran, and as Miz turned around Finlay kicked him and then hit the Celtic Cross into the pin.

Winner: Finlay

To the back next in Teddy Long’s office. In walks Armando Estrada still looking for a contract. Then there was a knock on the door, in walked ECW’s newest superstar, Braden Walker. If you have never seen TNA Wrestling before this is the man formerly known as The Wildcat Chris Harris. McMahon as he always does has to give people fake names so he can copyright them, so we now have Braden Walker. Teddy puts the two of them into a match coming up next.

After the break..
Armando Estrada vs. Braden Walker

The match was decent. When Estrada was dominating the crowd was chanting Wildcat. He turned it around and won his ECW debut match, just as Atlas Ortiz did last week. By the way, as you will learn in a minute, Atlas Ortiz’s new name is Ricky Ortiz.

To the back where Teddy is saying hi to Tony Atlas. He makes him the special guest ring announcer for tonight’s main event match between ECW Champion Mark Henry and Tommy Dreamer. Mark Henry then walks in and says hi to Tony. This is the reason he is now Ricky Ortiz, to avoid confusion with Tony Atlas who will be sticking around for a bit.

Back from the break…
An interview in the back with Atlas Ortiz who officially says to call him Ricky Ortiz.
Then after a video package about Matt and Jeff Hardy we see Tommy Dreamer and Colin Delaney in the back meeting up with Tony Atlas.

Back from another break…
Nunzio vs. Evan Bourne

This wasn’t as good a match as I was expecting. Bourne is still a great up and coming talent though. He finished the match with a Shooting Star Press and got the pin.

Winner: Evan Bourne

To the back again where Mark Henry meets up with Tony Atlas and insults him a bit. All setting up what was about to happen.

After the break…
Out came Mr. U.S.A. Tony Atlas to be special guest ring announcer.

ECW Champion Mark Henry vs. Tommy Dreamer accompanied by Colin Delaney

Henry dominated most of the match. Colin grabbed his foot at one point, Henry climbed out to the floor to get him. Tony Atlas stopped him, and put his arm around him as to protect him. Instead he threw Colin into the announce table, taped ribs first. Dreamer came out and was asking Tony what he was doing. While Atlas had his attention Henry hit him from behind and hit the World’s Strongest Slam on the floor. The ref disqualified Henry.

Winner via disqualification: Tommy Dreamer

It is apparent that Tony Atlas is Mark Henry’s new manager.

Mike Adamle mage
Did Mike Adamle take one too many shots to the head during his football career?
Another show with just four matches. At least tonight it was only an hour long show. Mike Adamle made more mistakes. The matches they did have weren’t all that exciting. I think ABC’s new game show Wipeout might be a better hour of TV. Tony Atlas being around might not be a totally bad thing. Seeing Chris Harris’s debut in the WWE was pretty good too. It can only be a matter of time before Ron The Truth Killings shows up in the WWE’s initiative to feature African-American talent more prominently.
