WWE ECW Wrap Up 6-17-08 - Results

June 20th 2008 11:42
ECW – San Jose, California

Well, right from the start it looked like a waste of an hour. The main event seemed to be a “confrontation” between Kane & The Big Show. Another match mentioned at the start of the show was another rehash of C.M. Punk vs. John Morrison. Then it all turned around. . .

Hornswaggle vs. Armando Estrada

Wait, that doesn’t make the show better! The match started with Horny grabbing Armando’s cigar and stomping on it. Armando gave chase, out to the floor, around the ring, Hornswaggle grabbed a tray full of marbles and dumped then on the floor. Armando came running and slipped and fell. He then started hitting him with an inflatable hammer, then sprayed him with a water gun. He then ran and got under the ring, Armando searched for him, and got a hold on a foot. He dragged it out, and it was Finlay with a much bigger water gun. Hornswaggle was now on the ring apron and hit a Mini-Theis press. He went back in the ring and distracted the ref with the small water gun while Finlay rolled Armando back into the ring. Horny went to the top rope and hit the Tadpole Splash and a three count.

Winner: Hornswaggle

Back from the break…

Matt Striker vs. Alex Shel…no wait Evan Bourne

They went back and forth with Bourne trying some high flying stuff, then Stiker grabbed him while he was on the ring apron and hit the same Swinging Neck Breaker that we saw on Raw the night before, with his feet on the top rope.

Evan Bourne has tons of potential.
Bourne just wouldn’t quit though. He got Striker down on the mat and did a back flip from a totally stationary position, but Striker got a knee up. As Striker came into the corner where Bourne was now standing he grabbed the ropes kicked Striker back and in one fluid motion turned himself up and onto the top turnbuckle. He then finished the match with a Shooting Star Press, and got the three count.

Winner: Evan Bourne

As he celebrated in the ring out came Mike Knox to attack him from behind. I must say Bourne has some major potential, hence the reason McMahon changed his name so he could trademark it. He needs to be drafter somewhere else though so he can have matches with someone like Paul London, or even better yet, if he could somehow leave and go to TNA’s X Division. Alex Shelley against his clone would be a cool match.

After the break…

Mike Knox vs. Kofi Kingston

Knox took over early, but Kofi turned it around with a dropkick to the knee, followed by a couple more kicks. He then tried to monkey flip him out of the corner, but Knox grabbed him in a claw like maneuver turned around and smashed Kofi into the top turnbuckle, with the back of his head hitting hard. Knox hit a suplex and then tried to wear him down with a knee in his back and his arms being pulled back. Kofi was battling out with a stomp, and some kicks. He then went to the top rope and hit a high flying cross body block, and got a two count. He then followed up with another dropkick, the boom, boom, boom leg drop and was about to go for the pin, but Shelton Benjamin’s music started playing. Down came Benjamin who charged Kofi in the middle of the ring and tackled him, they then started brawling. Shelton hit him with a T-Bone Suplex, and went for a kick, but Kofi spun him around. As Shelton spun he recovered and tried to hit a round house kick, Kofi moved out of the way and Shelton kicked Mike Knox instead.

Winner via disqualification: Kofi Kingston

To the back for a contract signing. Finlay and Horny are with Teddy and his assistant Tiffany. Tiffany states the obvious on a couple matters as they sign, then Tiffany takes the clipboard with te contract on it and Horny bites her hand. In walks The Miz who is dumbfounded at Teddy’s decision to give them a title shot, and of course just dumbfounded in general, this was announced like two weeks ago. Miz got hit with the shalalay.

C.M. Punk vs. John Morrison

This match was reversal after reversal, as they also exchanged slaps. Morrison hit Punk with a baseball slide which sent him out to the floor. Then back in the ring for more reversal. Morrison then started working on Punk’s ribs. Punk fought out with a kick to the head, but was then driven back into the corner and hit in the ribs with a few knees, leading to a two-count. He then went back to working on the ribs with a submission hold, but Punk cradled him into a near fall. Morrison suplexed him with his mid-section across the top rope. He got another near fall, and went right back to the ribs with a sitting abdominal stretch. Punk fought to his feet and got him up for the GTS, but Morrison fought out with elbows, followed by some knees, and a series of two-counts. Ten he slapped on a body scissors right around his ribs. Punk got Morrison onto his back and grabbed his ankles, then spun him. He then charged him in the corner and hit him with a knee to the head. Morrison ducked a clothesline, sprung off the ropes with a moonsault, but missed, Punk hit a snap powerslam and got a two-count. After Mike Adamle gave us an anatomy lesson on “core strength”, Punk hit a spin kick, and set him up for what looked like a Pedigree. Morrison reversed it and got Punk in a Fireman’s Carry, and slammed him to the mat. He bounced off the ropes and hit a knee to Punk’s face, which led to another near fall. Morrison hit a suplex, and another two-count. Morrison then got shoved off to the corner and went out to the ring apron. He launched himself back in for a sunset flip, but Punk turned and caught him on his shoulders, and hit the GTS. Punk got the three count.

Winner: C.M. Punk

At the top of the ramp is Morrison sitting on the floor in pain, and Miz with a mic and and icepack on his face. Saying how they will remain the tag team champions.

After the break…

Teddy Long is in the ring with a mic to introduce The Big Show and ECW Champion Kane. Teddy gives them the chance to say whatever they want to one another. Show says he is gonna win, Kane says no, he is going to win. They get nose to nose, Teddy stops them, and out comes Mark Henry. Henry says if he isn’t drafter, whoever wins at Night of Champions he is coming after. Kane and Show hit him with a double chokeslam and then get nose to nose again.

I was indeed correct at the beginning of the show, it was a waste of about an hour. I just don’t understand why they can’t fill an hour with interesting matches we might not have seen before. I guess it has something to do with the fact that the ECW roster has like 14 people on it, and unfortunately that include Miz, Knox, Colin Delaney, and Leyla.
