WWE ECW Wrap Up 5-27-08
May 28th 2008 07:49
ECW from Colorado Springs, Colorado
On the heels of The Big Show coming out last week to interject himself into the Singapore Cane match at One Night Stand, the show started off with The Show.
The Big Show vs. Tommy Dreamer
The Big Show controlled this match from the bell. Dreamer tried to mount an offense a couple times but it didn't work. The match was over quickly after a big chokeslam followed by a pin.
Winner: The Big Show
After the match they showed video footage of Paul Heyman screwing RVD out of the ECW title, a match where The Big Show became the ECW Champion. To me this says Show is in the title match this Sunday.
After the break...
Shelton Benjamin as out at the announce table with Taz and Mike Adamle. For the record a little math problem, (Mike Adamle Shelton Benjamin) - Joey Styles = A big negative still.
Kofi Kingston vs. Mike Knox
Kofi started off quick with some kicks, but Knox took over soon after by simply overpowering him. The crowd was solidly behind Kingston. Kofi turned it around with a few flying forearms followed by an impressive drop kick. He then landed a kick directly in Knox's face. Knox instantly started bleeding from a gash now either below or just above his left eye. Kofi got the one-two three.
Winner: Kofi Kingston
As could be expected Shelton headed to the ring to jump Kofi from behind. The two would brawl a bit with Kingston taking the upper hand until Knox hit him from behind and laid him out.
After the match a video clip of C.M. Punk winning the title against Morrison. This reassures me that Show is definitely in the match at ONS. After the break another video, this one is of Chavo winning the belt from Punk. This leads in to our next match...
C.M. Punk vs. Chavo Guerrero accompanied by Bam Neeley
Punk takes over with some fast-paced offense which isn't slowed down much by Chavo using the ropes again and again. Chavo turned it around and tried to wear Punk down, Punk fought back and got him in a backslide into a pin for a two count. Chavo hung Punk up on the top rope which led to a pin and a two count. After the break they are exchanging punches, Punk is thrown to ropes, Chavo charges and is flipped to the outside. Neeley would come over to check on him, then snuck around to other side of the ring while Chavo got his attention. As Punk went to bounce off ropes Neeley pulled the top rope down sending Punk to the floor. Chavo went out after him, then back into the ring they went where Chavo tried to wear him down some more. Punk would soon turn it around with some kicks, and into a pin for a two count. Next Chavo would get Punk into a single leg Boston Crab, Punk would reach the ropes quickly. Counter leads to counter till Chavo goes for the Three Amigos (Three consecutive suplexes). Punk would counter the third one and then lift him up onto his shoulders for the GTS, but Chavo countered with a hurracanrana Chavo then went for a Tornado DDT but was shoved off across the ring, Punk charged with a flying knee, but Chavo ducked and rolled him up for a pin and got the three count this time, with a handful of tights.
Winner: Chavo Guerrero
Before the break they show the video from Tommy Dreamer's first time winning the ECW title. Unfortunately they didn't show any of the action, just his speech after the match about how he may never make it to Wrestlmania, and he doesn't want to make it to Starcade, but now he has made it in ECW.
After the break...
What are two things that don't seem to work on ECW, or in the WWE? Lena interviews Colin Delaney. For some reason, we here his thoughts on Mr. McMahon's Million Dollar Giveaway, followed by what he hopes happens in the 2008 Draft coming up next month.
The remaining video of John Morrison winning the belt is now shown.
WWE Tag Team Champions John Morrison & The Miz vs. ECW Champion Kane in a Handicap Tag match
They trapped Kane in their corner right away and with frequent tags took control, until The Miz ran into a big boot. Kane overpowered both men for awhile. Then hit Miz with a flying clothesline, then into an attempted double chokeslam. Miz and Morrison would both kick Kane to escape his grasp and then proceed to beat him down. They ignored the ref telling them to break and were disqualified.
Winner: Kane via DQ
They would continue to beat on him after the match was over. Punk would come running down to help Kane. Then in true WWE fashion, leading into a pay-per-view, out came Chavo, out came Dreamer, and we had a brawl involving all but one competitor in this Sunday's Singapore Cane match. Then The Big Show's music started and out he came. He and Kane cleared the ring of everyone else. Then the former Tag Team Champions of the World stood and stared at one another till the show went off the air.
This week we had just four matches, but it was on the only hour long show, so it is a normal amount of matches for once. Although their choice of matches still wasn't all that good. I must say I was surprised by the Punk - Chavo match. Going into it I said "oh this match again?" I was fully expecting to not like it, but it turned out to be a very good match, and easily the match of the night.
It is also god to see The Big Show back to being a fan favorite. I also like the prospect of a Kane- Show feud again. Sure we have seen the match many times before, but they were much more exciting than just about anything that involved Morrison, The Miz, and especially The Great Khali. Let me clarify one thing about that comment, Morrison in M-N-M was exciting, just not after that. Also, I like Khali and his background, but he is the stereo-typical super-big wrestler. Most of his matches don't last more than five minutes. For example his title match with John Cena at a PPV last year from bell to bell lasted little more than four minutes, and it was the main event!
In a running rant you might recognize if you read this blog regularly...
Want to create an actual tag team division? Put Kane and Show back together again. Nice main event f the future, Kane & Show vs. Ted Dibiase & Mike Rotunda. . . the juniors of course. Although that would be one of those dream matches from different generations that would have been fun to watch.
Tune in Thursday for the TNA Impact Wrap Up....and of course the Wrestlemania Wrap Up we previously mentioned.
