Is The Undertaker's career over?

One Night Stand – from San Diego, California

The night kicked off with what was sure to be an exciting match.

Falls Count Anywhere Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga

Umaga started off by overpowering Hardy. Other than a small glimpse of offense from Hardy who hit an early Whisper in the Wind it was all Umaga. Then Hardy ducked a charging Samoan Bulldozer and pulled down the top rope, Umaga fell to the outside and Jeff launched himself over the top rope into a pin on the floor for a two count. Umaga flung him hard into the ring barrier, then over it and onto the concrete floor. He would continue to pound on him out near the crowd, Hardy threw an orange construction barrel at Umaga, but it didn’t phase him, he leveled him with a kick to the face. Hardy would get up and find a fire extinguisher, he would spray Umaga in the face with it three times as the competitors made their way into the back hallways of the arena. Up a stairway Hardy went with Umaga giving chase, Hardy would slide down the railing hitting him with a clothesline and getting a two count while laying on the stairs. At the top of the stairs was the arena lobby with concession and merchandise stands. They would battle toward a doorway and eventually end up outside in the beautiful San Diego sun. Hardy would be bounced off of equipment cases, WWE trailers, pretty much anything in sight. After each had gotten a two count in the parking lot Jeff headed up a ladder on the back of an 18-wheeler with an HBK paint scheme. Umaga would climb up after him, but be kicked down onto the asphalt. Hardy would get to the top of the trailer and hit Umaga with a Swanton Bomb while he lie prone on the ground. When the camera went over to look at the carnage the ref was giving a three count because technically Hardy had Umaga pinned. For those that didn’t read my preview for this event, I actually predicted the outcome, and the fact that it would end outside the arena.

Winner: Jeff Hardy

Next up Mick Foley would explain the hazards of a Stretcher Match. Then we see that San Diego Charger player Shawne Merriman is sitting at ringside.

ECW Number One Contender’s Match
A Singapore Cane Match
C.M. Punk vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. John Morrison vs. The Big Show

At the start of this match we find out that there is a Singapore Cane atop a tall pole in each corner of the ring. Right after the bell rang all four other competitors went after The Big Show, he took them out one by one. They didn’t give in though. Show missed an elbow drop which opened it up for Punk to delive a couple kicks to his head, Morrison followed with a knee to the face, Dreamer added a DDT, and then Chavo hit a frog splash from the top rope. While show was down they each climbed a pole and got the four Singapore Canes down, and took turns hitting him with them repeatedly. Show started fighting back, taking down Morrison and Chavo, but then Dreamer and Punk grab either end of their canes and charged at him, flipping him out to the floor. When they turned around they were met with cane shots from Morrison and Chavo. Punk and Chavo went out to the floor near the announce tables and fought. Chavo swung the cane at Punk, but he moved and Chavo ended up hitting a fan with the cane. . . that fan was the aforementioned Shawne Merriman who was not too pleased. Punk would then slingshot Chavo into the ring barrier right in front of Merriman, and then move in to give Chavo a shot with the cane. Merriman begged Punk to let him hit Chavo with the cane, Punk complied and handed him the cane. He hit chavo across the head with authority.

Meanwhile on the other side of the ring Show was beating on Morrison until Morrison’s tag team partner The Miz came out to help. Show picked up the steel ring steps and charged at a prone Miz, but Morrison hit him with a chop block with the cane sending Show to the floor, smashing his head into the steps as he went down. Back in the ring the other four combatants are going blow for blow. Dreamer used the cane to deliver a great Pump-Handle Suplex. Punk then had Dreamer up and ready for his GTS maneuver, but Tommy reversed it and turned Punk over into a Texas Clover Leaf. Morrison would hit Dreamer from behind to break the hold, and then go up to the top rope to try and Superplex Chavo. Chavo tossed him off to the mat, but then Punk charged in and catapulted himself off of Morrison back and up into the corner, delivering a knee to Chavo’s face. He then set him up for a Superplex of his own, but then Morrison moved in and made it a Tower of Woe move, as Chavo crashed to the mat he also hit Dreamer. A bloodied and angry Big Show was now back on hit feet outside the ring. He took out Bam Neeley with a punch, then grabbed a cane and started beating on The Miz until the cane was shattered. Morrison then tried leaping over the top rope at him, but he had grabbed a new cane already and met him with a devastating shot to the head, after The shaman of Sexy crashed to the ground Show hit him multiple until that cane shattered. Show then moved into the ring, bringing with him a trash can filled with fresh Singapore Canes. He took out the remaining three with multiple shots to each as they charged at him. Dreamer grabbed a cane while Show was pummeling Chavo, Show took the shot without flinching and hit Dreamer with a big chokeslam. He then helped Dreamer to his feet and leaned him in the corner. He went to get another cane and landed an incredible shot to Tommy’s head. Show followed that up by rolling him over and placing his size 22 EEEEE show on his chest for the pin while raising the cane in one hand.

Winner and new #1 Contender to Kane’s ECW Title: The Big Show

Right after the pin the cut to the back where Kane was watching on a monitor. Kane let out that evil laugh of his at the prospect of defending his title against The Big Show at The night of Champions pay-per-view coming up at the end of the month.

Next, to the back for an interview with Mr. McMahon to talk about his “McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania” which will begin Monday on Raw. After he points out that WWE employees are not eligible to win the money Ron “Damn” Simmons came out to show his distain with his one word.

First Blood Match
JBL vs. John Cena

This one started off with JBL removing the turnbuckle pad, and John Cena doing the same. Cena just ripped his off rather then untying it, and out came a big piece of foam cushion. Am I the only one that misses the days of George The Animal Steele? When he ripped of the padding you certainly knew it, as Styrofoam went flying everywhere. A side note about The original Animal, did you know he was a high school physical education teacher, and is in the Michigan Coaches and Michigan Football Coaches Halls of Fame.

Now back to the action…

They would battle back and forth, inside and outside the ring while both men were trying their best to protect their foreheads to prevent bleeding. It might be worth noting for later that JBL has his hands and forearms taped up to prevent possible bleeding from thrown punches and such. After a bit more battling outside the ring JBL went and found a steel chair, and stood Cena up against the ring post and swung, but Cena moved and started battling back. JBL would grab a microphone and hit him over the head with it. Still no blood. He then sent Cena back into the ring and hit him again with the mic. He tried it a third time but Cena ducked and started with his normal onslaught of offense leading up to the Five-Knuckle Shuffle. He then tried for the FU, but JBL grabbed the top rope and flipped to the outside and clotheslined Cena on the top rope. Outside the ring again, JBL shoved Cena head first into the steel ring post. Cena still wasn’t bleeding. He then tried to hit him with the steps but missed, then into the top of the ring barricade. He then dragged Cena over to the steps and tried to DDT him on them, but Cena grab the ring post and held on as JBL slammed backward into the steps. Cena then went and got the mic and hit him over the head with it. Keep in mind this mic has been turned on the entire time, so you get the cool static sound when you hit someone with it, he then followed by grinding JBL’s face into the steps. Still no bleeding. Cena would then head back into the ring with a chair, he swung and missed and JBL sent him into the exposed turnbuckle. Cena would then drive JBL’s head down into the chair. JBL then grabbed a chain from his towel in the corner. Seems I had the right idea about the chain, but it was JBL that brought it into the match. Cena then hit an FU and then tried recovering from a punch from a fist wrapped in the chain to the midsection. JBL would manage to get Cena tied up in the ropes. He then went out and retrieved a bull whipe from under the ring and started snapping it closer and closer to Cena’s flesh to intimidate him. He got too close though and took a low blow from Cena’s knee. Cena would then tackle JBL and slap on the STFU submission hold using the chain around his neck. JBL began bleeding from the mouth, almost a bit too instantly.

Winner: John Cena

Cena would then raise the chain above his head in celebration. At this point I am amazed at just how well my predictions are going. Thus far even my ordering of the matches is nearly perfect, only reversing the order of The big Show and the John Cena matches.

Then to the locker room where Randy Orton is trying to convince Batista to “get the band back together” if they are drafted to the same show in a couple weeks. This time being the leaders rather than the followers, referring to their Evolutions days with Triple H and Ric Flair.

Next up…the first ever I Quit match between WWE Divas

I Quit Match
Beth Phoenix vs. Melina
Phoenix would get face to face with Melina and back her to the ropes while “talking smack.” Melina shoced her back and kicked her in the stomach and then went straight to a submission hold, a Guillotine, basically wrapping her legs around Phoenix and getting her in a sort of Front-Face Lock. At first I thought Phoenix had grabbed her into a bear hug. Phoenix would break the hold, but then Melina delivered a knew to her face. Phoenix however shifted her and dropped her across her knee for a Back Breaker, which led into a Bow and Arrow submission hold, Melina used he knees again to break out. Melina headed to the top rope after being flung into the corner by Phoenix, and grabbed her by her hair into a Face Buster. Melina then wrapped up her legs into an Indian Deathlock and arched her back to get her into a chin lock. Phoenix crawled to the edge of the mat and kept going till they both fell to the floor, breaking the hold. Then back in the ring she picked Melina up and drove her back into the corner, sat her on the top rope, and then flipped her off to the mat. She then picked her up into a Back Breaker. Phoenix would jump up and down to intensify the pain, and then finally flipped her down to the mat again. Melina would be flung into the corner, Phoenix followed in and was caught by Melina’s legs. Phoenix tried to counter and was about to overpower her but Melina shifted and rolled out of it, in the process sending Phoenix crashing into the middle turnbuckle face first. Then from the mat she kicked Phoenix from behind, sending her into the steel ring post. Melina would begin to work on the now hurt shoulder. Phoenix kept trying to overpower her, but to no avail. As she picked her up for a sidewalk slam Melina turned it into a Fujiwar Arm Bar Submission hold. She would almost break free from it, but Melina turned it into a Cross Arm Breaker. At this point The King and J.R. were shocked at all of Melina’s submission moves. Phoenix powered up to her feet and launched Melina into the mat from a running powerbomb. She then picked her up and drove her into the mat with a sit-out face buster. Without hesitation she reached out and wrapped her up into a Surf Board type submission which bent Melina in half. . . backwards. Her feet were touching the back of her head. She had no choice but to quit.

Winner: Beth Phoenix

Into the back wear Cena is visiting with the doctor. In walks Mickie James, they start to talk and then out of the bathroom walks Mike Adamle. He compliments them on being such a great looking couple.

The AT&T Mobile Vote picked Shawn Michaels to win the Stretcher Match 59% to 41%.

A Stretcher Match
The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels vs. The Animal Batista

They would exchange blows a bit, then Batista would clothesline HBK out of the ring, he crashed down knee first onto the stretcher. Then he was sent into the stretcher again. Michaels turned it around and sent Batista into the steps, then rammed his head backward into the ring post. He then sat The Animal down on the steps and charged at him with the stretcher a couple times crashing into his chest, and then his chin. Batista would fight off Shawn’s first attempt to put him on the stretcher. He tried for the Batista Bomb but Michaels blocked it with a front face lock which seemed to turn into a choke. He then loaded him onto the stretcher and tried pushing it up the ramp. He didn’t get far before Batista battled back. He then flung Shawn into the ring post head first, followed by picking him up and ramming his lower back into the edge of the ring, then again into the ring barrier. He then rolled him back into the ring and continued his assault on the Heartbreak Kid. He charged in for a spear but Michaels stepped aside and shoved him into the ring post. Michaels would bounce off the ropes with a flying forearm, he nipped up and went to the top rope to drop a big elbow which seemed to hurt his own back. He then stodd in the corner waiting to deliver Sweet Chin Music, as he charged in Batista hit him with a clothesline. He then set him up for the Batista Bomb at first trying to send him to the outside of the ring with it, but Michaels grabbed the top rope and shifted his weight to break free. He then hit the Sweet chin Music which sent Batista over the top rope, landing on the stretcher. As Shawn came out to try and drag the stretcher up the ramp Batista grabbed the ring apron and then fell off the stretcher. Michaels would try putting him back on, but Batista battled out with knees to the head. HBK then used the stretcher to ram Batista again and again, until Batista blocked the one shot and then lifted his end, followed by lowering it quickly which caused Shawn’s end to raise up into his chin. Back into the ring, Batista hits the spear this time, and follows it with a Batista Bomb. The Animal then dragged Shawn’s lifeless body onto the stretcher. Then out of nowhere comes Chris Jericho who gets up close to Shawn and gives him words of encouragement. As he does he blocks Batista from moving the stretcher, a ref came down to get Jericho. By now Michaels was crawling back into the ring where Batista was waiting for him. He would pull himself up using Batista for leverage. Once on his feet he shoved Batista back and tried to hit Sweet Chin Music again, but could only get his foot to about waist high, he then fell to the mat. Batista picked him up and looked right at him and said “HBK, I do not love you, and I am not sorry.” Mocking what HBK had said to Flair before ending his career. He then hit another Batista Bomb and loaded Michaels onto the stretcher. Halfway up the ramp and out came Jericho again. He started by shouting more words of encouragement but then actually put his hands on the stretcher to stop it just short of the finish line. Batista was not happy. Jericho tried lifting Shawn off the stretcher by sitting him up, and Michaels fell of to the side and down to the floor. Batista headed back to the ring to grab the steel steps. He hit him with a Spinebuster on the steps, put him back on the stretcher and pushed it across the finish line.

Winner: Batista

The doctors and trainers were out fast, luckily Michaels was already loaded on a stretcher. By the way, not a drop of blood like I predicted.

As they started reviewing the battle between Triple H and Orton I began wondering that if the reason the Undertaker – Edge match was saved for last was if it really was The Undertaker’s final match.

Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship
Randy Orton vs. Triple H

Orton took control briefly, then while outside the ring Thr Game started slamming Orton into anything and everything, the steps, the ring barrier, the announce tables. Then back in the ring Triple H continued to dominate. He would throw Orton into the steel ring post shoulder first a couple times, and then continue to pound on The Legend Killer. Orton tried to turn it around with his high dropkick but Triple H quickly recovered and threw him over the top rope to the outside. Once out there he stripped down the ECW announce table, which btw was used for one match, strange considering it was ECW’s One Night Stand. He put Randy a top the table then got up there and continued to beat on him. He tried to hit the Pedigree but Orton slipped out and attempted the RKO but was shoved off and back to the floor. He would reach up and connect with a couple blows and then set Triple H up for a DDT, while his feet were still up on the announce table. He would stay down for a nine count. Orton then removed the padding just outside the ring to expose the concrete. He tried the RKO again onto the concrete, but again he was shoved off, this time into the steel ring post. Both men were up by a six count and headed back into the ring where Orton regained control. The steps got a real workout tonight, Orton went out to bring the m into the ring and smashed them right into The Game’s face, the ref started counting, and you just knew when he got up he’d be bleeding. Orton went out to get an extension cord from under the ring and came back in to choke Triple H with it. This time The Game got up at the eight count and Orton charged in to hit the RKO, but again he was shoved off, this time over the top rope and down to the floor. The area where he went out was the same spot he threw the steps out of the ring to earlier. It looked like in an attempt to land safely short of the steps he got turned a bit and landed the wrong way on his shoulder. He could be seen cursing, and then telling the ref that he broke his collarbone. Triple H came out and the match continued. Orton being the superstar and professional that he is went on with the match. Of course he was mentored by the man he was facing, who has in the past finished matches with a torn and ruptured quadriceps tendon. As predicted Triple H pulled out the sledgehammer and hit Orton over the head with it. Orton would stay down for the ten count in what was surely a shortened match.

Winner: Triple H

The doctors came down as a clearly worried Triple H looked on secretively as he celebrated his win. Orton’s left arm did not move an inch since he said he had broken his collarbone. Like him or not it is a shame to see him put on the shelf for 6-8 weeks with a broken collarbone. He got up and walked off on his own power. You could visibly see that his collarbone was broken underneath the skin. As he walked up the ramp the fans booed him, he turned back and gave them a piece of his mind. At one point they had to push a fan back because Orton was close to the breaking point and unhappy that he put his career on the line as all wrestlers do every time they get in the ring, and can’t even get an ovation as he gets up to walk off on his own after finishing a match hurt. When’s the last time you saw a hated football player get hurt on the field and get booed when he got up and walked off? I go to Arena Football, Tulsa Talons games all the time. If an opponent’s player goes down on the field hurt, even though he is the enemy the crowd is concerned for his well-being. When he gets up and walks off he gets a big round of applause, not a series of boos!

After they waste a little bit of time during the intro to the TLC match to make up for the shortened match it was now time for the WWE Heavyweight Championship to no longer be vacant.

Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match for the WWE Heavyweight Championship (If The Undertaker loses he will be “banished from the entire WWE”)
Edge vs. The Undertaker

The Undertaker took control immediately with a big boot to the face, a bunch of body blows, a series of headbutts and then a choke, all leading into the “Old School” move. He would then go outside to bring in a ladder, as he carried it to the ring Edge came in with a baseball slide driving the ladder into Taker and sending him back into the stacked ladders. Edge then stacked two tables on top of one another. As he walked around to get the Undertaker and was hit with a ladder. The Undertaker stacked up two more tables, so now there were four tables stacked two high and side by side just outside the ring. Edge would drive him into the steel ring post and then try to climb the ladder in the ring, but The Undertaker would stop him. He then set up a ladder in the corner to hit his Snake Eyes move into the ladder, but was shoved off face first into the ladder. Edge set up another ladder in the opposite corner, but was whipped into the ladder he had just set up. The Undertaker then set up a ladder in the middle to go up for the belt. Edge would follow, but would be shoved off into the one ladder that was in the corner, he then bounced off into the standing ladder, sending The Undertaker flying into the other ladder. Edge would then set the ladder up in the corner again, this time Taker did hit Snake Eyes into the ladder. To the outside of the ring, The Undertaker got in a few chair shots, then set Edge up on the rng apron with his head hanging off the edge. He then ran along the ring apron to drop a leg across Edge’s throat, but Edge got a hold of a chair, and Taker would crash down onto the chair. Edge would then hit Taker with a low blow and laid in wait with a steel chair. He swung and connected hard with The Undertakers skull. Edge then wandered off to set up another table, followed by another chair shot to the head. He laid The Undertaker out on a table, then climbed up on the announce table and came flying off with a frog splash, crashing down through the table and to the floor. Edge then set up a ladder in the middle of the ring, Taker made it back in the ring on time to shove Edge off the ladder, but Edge would immediately hit him with a Spear. Next he started using the ladder to hurt his leg. He put The Undertaker’s leg in between where the ladder opens and slammed it down, then hit it with a chair. Now the really big ladder was setup in the middle. Edge hit hit with two brutal chair shots to the head for good measure before he climbed up the ladder. With The Undertaker laying prone he set him up for his solo Conchairto, but as he wound up The Undertaker struck back with a hard low blow of his own. From the ring apron he would chokeslam Edge out onto a ladder that had been suspended between the ring apron and the ring barrier. While Edge was laid out he was climbing the ladder to the belt and Ryder & Hawkins hit the ring to stop him. They would slide in two tables and set them up, after the first one was up they laid Taker down on it, then put the other table on top of it and him. Hawkins climbed to the top rope, but The Undertaker fought back and knocked Ryder down then got up to get Hawkins. He grabbed him for a chokeslam through a table on the outside. Ryder was next through a table at ringside via a chokeslam. By now Edge was back up and came over to spear Taker from the ring aprn into the ring barrier. Edge then fixed the two tables in the ring that were supposed to be double stacked. Then he climbed the ladder, Undertaker made it just in time, he grabbed him and sent him for The Last Ride through the two tables setup in the ring. Now it was his turn to climb up the ladder. This time it was Chavo Guerrero and Bam Neeley came out to interfere. The Undertaker ducked out of the way of a conchairto and then took them out with chair shots of his own. He then shifted the ladder a bit, and began to climb. The ladder was now placed close enough to the previously set up four tables outside the ring, someone was about to go through them from the ladder. Edge was up in time to push the ladder over, sending The Undertaker crashing through all four tables and to the floor. Edge then climbed up the ladder and retrieved the belt to become the new WWE Heavyweight Champion to a chorus of boos.

Winner: Edge

Even Edge looked stunned to realize that The Undertaker had just wrestled his last WWE match. Out came Vickie Guerrero to celebrate. The focus then moved to The Undertaker struggling to get up.As he got to his feet there was a huge ovation for the Dead Man. He limped off with a look that it was all over. He stopped and turned back to look at the crowd and then just turned and walked off.

WOW, OK, I wasn’t expecting this pay-per-view to be this good. I was pleasantly surprised. A lot of it was predictable though, as those of you that read my preview of One Night Stand will know. I was wrong on just two of the outcomes, Melina lost, and unfortunately so did The Undertaker. The other five matches I not only predicted the winners but quite a few details.

The best match of the night, other then its outcome, was the main event TLC match. Although it is hard for a TLC match to not be the most exciting of any given night. The worst match of the night probably has to go to Cena vs. JBL again.

It was great to see The Big Show get a title shot and a chance to renew a rivalry with Kane, and to see the I Quit match with the Divas. Melina sure has come a long way. Sadly Randy Orton will be on the shelf for about two months now. I wonder if they will still draft him to Smackdown! like I predicted. I am also curious to see who they put into the title picture with Triple H now.
