Kevin Nash On His Injuries

January 14th 2009 10:22
On Tuesday night, TNAwrestling.com received the following update from Kevin Nash, who is still recovering in a Charlotte, North Carolina, hospital following emergency surgery. As a result, Nash was unable to compete at Sunday's "Genesis" Pay-Per-View. TNAwrestling.com would like to thank Nash for providing this update to the fans, and everyone at TNA wishes the superstar a speedy recovery.

Greetings from Charlotte, still. I know I've only been in the airport, hotel and hospital since I've been here after arriving late Saturday afternoon, but I've run into some very nice people. The hospital staff is very nice, and one young brunette nurse is really a looker. Kinda tall Megan Fox-looking.

Kevin Nash Injuries

I have some sort of infection in my right elbow; the culture has not come back yet. The doctors have been treating it as MRSA. For those of you who do not know, MRSA is an antibiotic-resistant infection. A mutated superbug. Lucky me. Oh, by the way, did I tell you that I was operated on Monday afternoon.

That's surgery No. 27. After being cut on that many times, sometimes you forget, even if it was just Monday when I was operated on. (Editor's note: Nash's arm was cut open to drain blood due to massive swelling). Don't know when this will heal, depends on how my body reacts to the antibiotics. I have a gaping, open wound in my elbow, with the equivalent of a small ShopVac hooked up to it.

I'm sure I'm paying 2-bills to rent that bad boy. When I go home, I'll hook up the Black & Decker, and save the insurance company some money. Hated missing the Pay-Per-View because I felt like the Mafia was just starting to get some momentum. But my left arm is OK, so I should be able to whack somebody at the next iMPACT events in Orlando. Heard Kurt and Jeff had a great match; I look forward to watching that. I would like to continue on with this blog, but American Idol is upcoming. Can't miss. I'll blog more this week.

Nash …"The MRSA Man" Oh MRSA, MRSA me … things ain't like they used to be.

After nearly 20 years of wrestling a very physical in-ring style, Team 3D's Brother Ray will be taking several months off due to injuries and is considering retirement.

Ray's tag partner Devon was interviewed this week by Alex Marvez and says Ray has officially taken an "indefinite break" from pro wrestling. "Bodywise, he's pretty messed up," he said. "I saw this coming two or three years ago. There were times where even getting on a plane was hard for him."

"For our generation, the (aging) process is sped up because of everything more we do in the ring," he said. "You can't do all that flying and flipping and not pay a price."

Devon added, "Bubba and I are definitely two different people. What he lacks in wrestling ability, I pick up. What I lack in talking, he picks up. But I still think when I'm given the mike, I've always held my own."

If Ray does decide to retire, Devon won't join him, as he still believes he can produce in the ring for TNA. He has been one of the leading forces behind TNA's Frontline group and says he's eager to step up as a singles star in TNA.

Christian Cage And TNA

January 8th 2009 07:49
Christian Cage was finally pulled off the TNA website’s roster page yesterday. There had been no communication between Christian and the company since he stopped appearing on TV and had been written out of the storylines after an attack by the Main Event Mafia.

If Cage had opted to remain, he would have been the lead talker and top face for the TNA Frontline group. However, the consensus within the company was that he had made his decision to move on several months ago.

Sources claim Christian had become less interested and enthused with the product and harder to deal with dating
back to early October. In a meeting with Dixie Carter and Jeff Jarrett, Cage apparently told them he had another offer and was leaning towards taking it, but hadn’t yet made up his mind.

Right now everyone is under the impression that Cage quietly signed with WWE and will debut on Smackdown shortly. His TNA deal officially expired last week.

TNA iMPACT! From The iMPACT! Zone

Episode Title: Now You See Him, Now You Don’t.

The show started off with Samoa Joe making his way through the crowd toward the ring. Kevin Nash met him there and they both got in the ring which was surrounded by the six sides of steel. Joe proposed that he and Booker get rid of the referee and the rules in their match at Hard Justice, and instead have their match in the six sides of steel. Almost instantly Booker’s music came on and out he came with Sharmell and the TNA title. Booker proposed adding a few things to the match, some tables, ladders, and chairs. He then finished his statement by telling Joe to, “be afraid of the dark.”

Then to the back with JB talking to AJ Styles, Christian Cage, and Rhino talking about their match with Team 3D and Kurt Angle later in the night, and how they have said they will have Sting in their corner.

After the break…
Jimmy Rave accompanied by Lance Rock vs. Consequences Creed vs. Johnny Devine vs. Eric Young

This match went on a bit too long. In the end Creed pinned Johnny Devine.

Winner: Consequences Creed

After the match Devine, Rave, and Rock attacked Creed. While they were setting up a chair shot out came Abyss to the rescue.

To the back where Team 3D and Angle are with JB. They laid JB out on a table as a “demonstration”, and talked about their=2 0match later in the night, and Sting.

Back from the break…
They ran a Kaz video package all leading in to the first “Karen’s Angle” interview with him as the guest. They talked about how he got his start in the business, his influences, debut in TNA, and leaving TNA in 2005. The first portion of the interview was actually rather interesting. For those wondering Kaz’s responses were; he was a fan of wrestling and when he got out of high school he moved to Massachusetts where he met his mentor and trainer Killer Kowolski; He was influenced the most by Bret Hart; he left TNA in 2005 for an opportunity that he couldn’t pass up, but soon found the politics side of the business and did not like it at all. To be continued…

Back from the break…
“The Blueprint” Matt Morgan vs. Kory Chavis

Do I really need to list the winner of this match here?
Winner: Matt Morgan

To the back with Lauren and The Motor City Machine Guns to talk about the Strap Match they challenged Beer Money to later in the night. Chris Sabin delivered a good line about how their tag team, “is named for a straight to DVD movie starring Zach Morris.”

To a quick shot of Velvet Skye preparing for her title shot later in the night by getting her makeup done by Angelina Love.

Back from the break…
Lauren is in the back with the Prince Justice Brotherhood who are meeting to decide on=2 0a motto for their group. Super Eric came up with “We come in peace, but they leave in pieces.” Everyone agreed to it.

Tag Team Strap Match
Beer Money vs. The Motor City Machine Guns

After the break…
Sabin was strapped to Robert Roode, while Shelley was strapped to James Storm. The Guns controlled the match until Jackie interfered and allowed Beer Money to takeover. Jackie then gave Storm a pair of handcuffs which he used to punch Sabin. Roode got the pin on Sabin.

Winners: Beer Money

After the match they continued to beat on Alex Shelley and then whip him with the straps. LAX would come down to put a stop to it.

TNA Knockouts Championship Match
Champion Taylor Wilde vs. Velvet Skye

This match lasted five seconds! Wilde came up behind her and rolled her into a pin to successfully defend her title.

Winner: Taylor Wilde

Skye grabbed a mic and taunted her into another match. Wilde climbed into the ring to give her another shot. This one would last a little longer. This time Skye got pinned in 20 seconds.

This time Angelina Love says she will put up $5,000 of her own money if she can get back in the ring and do it again. Wilde obliged and another match started. This one lasted a lot longer, and ended with Love interfering in the match.

Winner twice by pinfall, and one via disqualification: Taylor Wilde

After the Beautiful People gave Wilde the Brown Paper Bag Treatment ODB and Gail Kim came down to help Wilde.

Next we are introduced to Sheik Abdul Bashir, aka Davairi. I am thinking Vince McMahon’s lawyers called TNA to cause that name change. He talked about how he is living the American Dream and how he isn’t much different than most Americans.

Next we see a video of Sonjay Dutt laying in a hospital bed surrounded by the Guru-ites and So Cal Val. He has been thinking about nothing but her for the three days he has been in a coma, yes that is what he said. The segment ended when a doctor brought in a bedpan.

Back to the ring…

Six-Man Elimination Tables Match
Team 3D & Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles, Christian Cage, and Rhino

Back from the break…
The competitors paired up and fought all over the iMPACT! Zone. Christian and Rhino put Devon through a table to become the first to be eliminated. Then during the commercial break Rhino was charging in to Gore Kurt Angle with a table behind him, and Brother Ray pulled him out of the way. Rhino went right through the table and was eliminated. Devon would then interfere in the match and help Ray hit the 3D through a table on Christian. Styles fought off the double team of Angle and Ray. After he had setup a table Johnny Devine came in with a handful of powder to throw in Styles’s face, but he ducked and it hit Ray. Ray now blinded for the moment grabbed Devine, thinking it was AJ, and power bombed him through a table. AJ then dropkicked Ray from behind sending him to the floor. Angle charged in after him but AJ sidestepped him and shoved him into Ray now standing on the ring apron. This sent Ray crashing to the floor again, but not before crashing through a table that was setup on the floor. This eliminated Ray, leaving just Angle and Styles in the match. Angle knocked the ref out of the ring. AJ setup a table and laid Angle on it, but as he climbed to the top rope Frank Trigg hit him in the back with a kendo stick. Angle then Olympic Slammed AJ through the table and won the match.

Winners: Team 3D and Kurt Angle

After the break…
Booker T comes out with the contract for the title match at Hard Justice for Samoa Joe to sign, Sharmell and Kevin Nash are also in the ring with them. Booker asks Joe to make Nash leave since it has nothing to do with him, Joe says only if Sharmell leaves too. They both leave, and as Booker is about to hand the contract to Joe the lights go out and Sting’s music comes on. When the lights come back on we see Booker with a baseball bat, and Joe laid out face down on the mat.

TNA iMPACT! From the iMPACT Zone

Episode Title: Victory Road “Drive-by”

The show starts with a Parking Lot Brawl match, which basically means there are no rules, and of course they are out in the parking lot. James Storm and Hernandez were barred from the parking lot so they couldn’t interfere.

Homicide vs. Robert Roode

They used everything they could get their hands on; trash cans, dumpster, 2X4, fence post, street signs, and so much more. Homicide was in control and going for the Gringo Killer when Jackie interfered and started pounding on Homicide. Someone wearing a hood and mask came out to start helping Roode too. It turned out to be James Storm. They handcuffed him and dragged him inside to the ring. Storm hit the Last Call super-kick, and then started whipping him with a belt. Hernandez was out soon to help his partner. He did a good job of fighting them off until he went for the Border Toss on Storm, but Roode broke it up and they took control again, briefly. Hernandez hit a double clothesline, and then got a hold of the belt and started whipping them. They escaped the ring after just a couple of shots. As things settled down Sting’s music played and we saw him up in the rafters again.

Back from the break…
More second round action of the World X Cup

Team Japan’s Masato Yoshino vs. Team International’s Doug Williams

Williams used his strength, Yoshino his speed. Early it was Williams’s power that was winning out, but Yoshino turned it around and got a couple near falls after a missile dropkick from the top rope. He would go to the top again, but Williams went up after him, he hit a double arm underhook suplex from the top and got the two count. They went back and forth a bit more until Williams got behind him in the corner and rolled him up. Now most people would have stopped at the end of the roll to get a pin, Williams however rolled through it and hit a German Suplex with the added force and momentum of the added roll. He bridged his own shoulders up and got the three count.

Winner: Doug Williams

Current World X Cup standings: Team Mexico – 3, Team Japan, and Team International – 2 points each, Team TNA – 1.

To the back where Kurt Angle is hassling his partners for tonight, Angelina Love and Velvet Sky, to get and up get ready for their match. “Do some squats or something!”. They got up and started doing squats. Angelina asked JB to “spot her”. She was basically squatting right in front of him/against him. She stopped and said, “JB, that better be your microphone!” JB ended up getting the brown bag treatment. By the way their opponents will be A.J. Styles, Gail Kim, and ODB.

Back from the break…
On location earlier in the day for Sonjay Dutt’s yoga class with the “Guru-ites”, the half a dozen or so little kids. After a demonstration with a female doing yoga we see his new student, Little Petey Pump working out. Then in came Jay Lethal to attack him.

To the back with Lauren interviewing Taylor Wilde (aka Shantelle Taylor) to talk about how big her opportunity is tonight against Awesome Kong.

Back from the break…
More Rough Cut with Matt Morgan. Matt talks about how it is so great to be able to be himself now, and not what “some puppeteer” wants him to be. Cornette goes on about how he could become one of the biggest stars in wrestling over the next few years. For me the biggest endorsement came from Kurt Angle who said that if he listens and learns from what is going on around him he would become a “feature attraction”. He went on to say that beaing a feature attraction is different than being a “main eventer” or being the champion. “Being a feature attraction means you are so popular that you don’t even need the belt.” To hear that coming from Angle makes me wonder just how good Morgan can be.

Time for a Six-Man Falls Count Anywhere Tag Match

Kip James (now being billed as “The Mega-Star”), X Division Champion Petey Williams, and Tomko
Vs.
B.G. James, Eric Young, and Matt Morgan

OK, after hearing who is in this match it just got interesting to me. Right from the start they were fighting all over the iMPACT! Zone. Morgan was controlling a lot of the action. Eventually they split up into the pairings you would expect; former tag partners Kip and B.G. went one way, former Team Canada members Eric and Petey went the other way, and the two big men started brawling. In the ring Eric hit a Diamond-Cutter on Petey, but Tomko broke up the pin attempt. Tomko sent Eric to the floor, and PEtey launched himself over the ropes and down onto Eric for a pin on the floor. He got the three count and the victory.

Winners: Petey Williams, Tomko, and Kip James

After the match ended Tomko threw Eric back in the ring and followed carrying a pipe, Petey followed them in. Petey was holding Eric from behind while Tomko was winding up and aiming. Before he had a chance to do anything Abyss’s music came on and down he came. He went right after Tomko and cleared him out of the ring. He then picked up the pipe and was thinking about doing something with it, but then suddenly dropped it.

Back from the break…
TNA Knockouts Championship Match & $25,000 Challenge Match

Taylor Wilde vs. Champion Awesome Kong accompanied by Raisha Sayid

Taylor Wilde Shantelle Taylor image
New TNA Knockouts Champion, Taylor Wilde.
Kong took over early, but Taylor turned it around quick hitting her with punches and kicks all over the place. Taylor went to bounce off the ropes but Sayid tripped her. Roxxi came down to ringside to help take Sayid out of the match. The ref kept them separated as we went to commercial. Kong controlled during the break apparently. Kong would miss a big splash off the ropes. Taylor followed with a series of dropkicks that staggered Kong, and then another from the top rope that knocked her onto her back. Kong powered back again and went for the Awesome Bomb, but Taylor rolled over her and was attempting to get her over for a roll up pin. Instead Kong was about to lap and sit on her, Taylor moved and Kong hit nothing but mat. Taylor then bounced off the ropes with a low dropkick to Kong’s face, followed by a two-count. Taylor then picked her up to her feet, but Kong hit her with a double chop to her shoulders. Kong’s attention turned to the ref long enough for Taylor to get to the top rope and setup for a flying cross body block. Kong turned back around, Taylor leaped off at her, at this point referee Rudy Charles happened to be down on the mat. Kong tripped over him backwards as Taylor made contact. She could only get a two-count though. After Taylor failed at hitting a German Suplex she bounced off the ropes again, Kong got her as she came back in and put her into the Implant Buster. To everyone’s surprise Kong only got a two-count. Kong went for the Awesome Bomb again, this time Taylor countered with punches to the head until Kong dropped her. Kong though was fast to retaliate with a couple of back punches. She then tried for her spinning backhand punch hat she has used many times before. Taylor ducked the shot, dropped down behind Kong and rolled her up for a pin. Taylor got the three count!

Winner of $25,000, and the New TNA Knockouts Champion, Taylor Wilde

(Please excuse my next comment) The crowd went Wilde! Taylor and Roxxi celebrated all the way up the ramp. Kong on the other hand was not at all happy.

After the break…
To the back with JB interviewing Kaz and Team TNA. Kaz talks about how he won’t let his team or TNA down. With a win Team TNA would move into a tie for first with Team Mexico. If Team Mexico wins they would have 5 points, and a 3 point lead over second place. So, I am thinking Kaz is definitely going to win.

Team TNA’s Captain, Kaz vs. Team Mexico’s Captain Ultimo Guerrero

As Guerrero controlled the match the rest of Team TNA came down on the ramp to cheer on Kaz. Guerrero hit an incredible inverted suplex off the top rope, but Kaz eventually took over. Kaz sent him to the mat, and was out on the ring apron. He slingshotted himself up onto the ropes for a springboard, but landed wrong on the top rope and fell to the mat holding his knee. Guerrero swooped right in for a pin, but Kaz kicked out. Kaz sat him up on the top rope and then climbed up after him. Guerrero fought back a bit, but Kaz kept control. He jumped up to hit a hurricanrana, but Guerrero caught his legs and blocked it. He then lifted Kaz up and powerbombed him from the top rope all the way across the ring. Kaz would kick out again at 2 and 2/3. Guerrero went to the top rope again and tried a backwards moonsault, but Kaz moved and he crashed to the mat. Kaz hit the Wave of the Future and got the pinfall.

Winner: Team TNA’s Kaz

Team TNA is now tied for first with Team Mexico at 3 points.

To the back with Lauren talking to A.J. Styles, Gail Kim, and ODB.

After the break… more commercials, well this one was for the Victory Road pay-per-view this Sunday. As they were going through the list of matched Jim Cornette came out to announce a new match. A rematch for the TNA Knockouts Championship. New Champion Taylor Wilde vs. Awesome Kong.

Then to the back with JB and Kurt Angle getting upset with The Beautiful People again because they are tanning just minutes before their match.

Back from the break…
Time for Booker T to make a public apology to Samoa Joe. Booker requested time to do so. After a video package previewing their match this Sunday, out came Booker. He started by calling Joe to the ring in a nice and courteous way. His apology was for what is going to happen this Sunday night in Houston, Texas at the PPV. Booker while trying to get inside Joe’s head asked him who he has ever beaten. He then starts to list some of the people he has beaten. He started with Rick Martel, then Stone Cold Steve Austin, next was Chris Jericho, he then finished by just saying he has beaten them all. He reached out and shook Joe’s hand, and said may the best man win. After Joe backed Booker down Sting’s music came on again. This time though Sting came walking down the ramp, and getting in the ring. All we learned by this was that Sting was going to be at Victory Road for some reason.

After the break…
Another video package about Gail Kim.

Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, and Kurt Angle vs. Gail Kim, ODB, and A.J. Styles

ODB dominated Angelina, Gail dominated Velvet, then in came A.J. and Kurt. Yes, A.J. came in and also dominated. Frank Trigg came down to the ring, then Karen Angle came down as we went to commercial. After the break… Angle took over after A.J. was distracted by Trigg. All four ladies got tagged in at the same time, so they all came in and started fighting. Gail Kim would get the pinfall on Velvet Sky.

Winners: Gail Kim, ODB, and A.J. Styles

As they celebrated the other three came in and attacked them from behind. As Kurt was about to put the Ankle Lock on A.J. in came Karen. She hit Kurt with a low blow from behind. As A.J. was going for the Styles Clash, Frank Trigg came in and attacked him from behind, lifted him up onto his shoulders and performed an FU like move on him. Angle then locked on the Ankle Lock while The Beautiful People put the brown paper bag over Gail Kim’s head.

Look at that, six matches! Much better. It was fun to see someone beat Kong, as long as the belt doesn’t go right back to her on Sunday. The World X Cup matches were pretty good again, with the first being the better of the two. Even the main event tag team was better than I had expected. The first six-man tag match was rather exciting too. I am however puzzled about the whole Sting appearance. Just don’t know what it has to do with anything. Unless of course they are trying to start up The Wolfpack again.

Be sure to get your votes in to choose the type of match Rhino, Christian, and A.J. Styles have with Team 3D and Kurt Angle. Online voting starts when the pay-per-view starts on Sunday. Voting will be open until just before the match. You can vote by going to www.tnawrestling.com

TNA iMPACT! Wrap Up 7-3-08

July 6th 2008 08:58
TNA iMPACT! From the iMPACT! Zone

Episode Title: The Mating Game

The show started off with A.J. Styles and Karen Angle coming down to the ring. A.J. called out Kurt Angle, but instead out came Team 3D. They talked a bunch back and forth, then got to fighting. While they were getting the table Rhino came out to save A.J.. They then set up a match at Victory Road which the fans will have the chance to decide the stipulations of the match. It will be Team 3D and Kurt Angle vs. A.J. Styles, Rhino, and Christian Cage in either a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match, a Falls Count Anywhere match, or a Full Metal Mayhem match.

Next we go on location with JB and Kurt Angle who is about to go on his first of three blind dates that Team 3D set him up on. He was meeting the first one at the rock wall in the gym. He got there and found a loud woman who was not quite attractive and looked to be lucky that she got into the safety harness, nevermind being able to climb the rock wall. The camera turned to Kurt and he said “Very funny Brother Ray and Brother Devon, the joke’s on me, huh?”

After the break...
We got to see some videos sent in by the applicants for the Fan’s Revenge match between LAX and Beer-Money, Inc.. Then they went to Houston for comments from LAX, until James Storms music started to play in the iMPACT! Zone. They came out to the ring and talked over one another for a bit. Down came their opponents for the night, The Motor City Machine Guns, Chris Sabin, and Alex Shelley

Robert Roode & James Storm vs. Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley
It was the usual MCMG (Motor City Machine Gun) match, they controlled early with fast-paced action. That is until a cheap shot from Storm on Sabin which allowed them to takeover. They would fight off the Machine Guns attempt at offense again. Then Storm held Shelley while Jackie took a swig of beer and tried to spit it in his face, but Shelley ducked and it went right into Storm’s face. He then rolled him up for the three count.

Winners: The Motor City Machine Guns

After the match Beer-Money, Inc. attacked, and handcuffed MCMG to the corners of the ring and started to whip them with the belts. Refs came down to try and stop them and got whipped too, then security suffered the same fate. They then whipped announcer Don West a few times, and moved onto ring announcer Dave Pinzer. At this point Jim Cornette came out and told them if they whip that man one more time they are both out of a job. He then decided to put them in a match later tonight against the two most disgruntled, biggest, a whole bunch of other adjectives wrestlers he could find in the back.

After the break…
Time for blind date #2. This time it is Melissa and he is meeting “her” for drinks. She walks in and Kurt comments how it is dark in the place, even though he is wearing his sunglasses. He then has JB turn the camera onto Melissa. Of course JB focuses right on her chest. He notices a bunch of chest hair! Then notices an adam’s apple. He informs Kurt that she is a he and Kurt flips out and attacks him. Telling him to tell Brother Ray he is going to kick his butt on Thursday.

Back to the ring…

Bimbo’s Brawl
(Mickie) Moose vs. Roxxi

This week it was a bit more exciting than the match with ODB. It included a lot more use of weapons. By the end Roxxi was busted open and pouring blood from above her eye. Moose got the win.

Winner: Moose

To the back with Jim Cornette getting the two men for the match with Beer-Money, Inc.. The first member of the team is Kevin Nash who says yes.

After the break…
Jim Cornette again, getting the second man of the team, Samoa Joe. Joes says yes, but then doesn’t like the idea and screams at Cornette a bunch before having him say he is management, Joe is talent, and he needs to do it for TNA tonight. Joe says fine, but Cornette is responsible for whatever happens in the ring tonight. Off to a Joe – Nash video package.

Back from the break…
Time for blind date #3. We pick up dinner with Kurt talking about… what else… himself. His date looks normal this time, but keeps excusing herself every few minutes. Kurt being the genius he is figures out she must be “one of those belemics”, and confronts her about it. She points out that she has a serious medical condition, a spastic colon. Kurt starts making some bad jokes until she gets up and leaves. Kurt then becomes enraged when JB points out the Brother Ray got him good three times today.

World X Cup Second Round Match
Team International’s Alex Koslov vs. Team Mexico’s Rey Buccanero

This was a decent match with a lot of athleticism. Alex Koslov is a great talent and should get to stay in TNA. In the end though Buccanero got the pinfall.

Winner: Team Mexico’s, Rey Buccanero

Team Mexico now has 3 points, while Team TNA has 2, and both Team International and Team Japan have zero.

To the back with Kurt Angle hunting for Brother Ray. JB tells him how Team 3D got him into the Fan’s Choice match at Victory Road, and that makes him even madder.

Back from the break…
Kurt comes down to the ring to call Team 3D down to the ring. Brother Ray wants to go into the back and talk it all out, and then tells him that Devon made the Fan’s Choice match. Kurt isn’t buying it. Ray goes on to explain that when he got home he had lost his little black book, so instead he used Devon’s, “and between you and me, you know what kind of sick crap he is into.” Ray then offers Kurt a woman he just met last night, who he calls down to the ring. Out came Sandy, and Kurt looked happy. She was decent looking. Kurt asked her what she had to offer an Olympic Gold Medalist. Her main point was being loyal. Kurt went on a rant about how no women are loyal. Sandy eventually said, “screw you!” Kurt pointed out he would never hit a woman, but he does know some people that do. Out came The Beautiful People to give Sandy the Brown Bag Treatment. Karen came down to the ring to put a stop to it, taking out Velvet and Angelina, then slapping Kurt across the face. All five then circled Karen, but before they could do anything in came the cavalry. . . A.J. Styles, Rhino, ODB, and Gail Kim. They quickly cleared the ring.

After the break…
To the back for JB in Booker T’s locker room. He makes him take off his shoes, and put on a silk robe before they could talk. He talked about Joe briefly.

After another break…
More Rough Cut with Matt Morgan. He talks about his start in wrestling, and getting signed to a WWE contract. Where he was sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling and met Jim Cornette. Kurt Angle and Cornette talked about how it was ridiculously stupid to use Matt Morgan for the whole stuttering gimmick.

World X Cup Match
Team Japan’s team captain, Milano Collection A.T. vs. Team TNA’s Curry Man

For those that don’t know Milano Collection A.T. he comes to the ring with an invisible dog on the end of a leash, and considers himself an Italian fashion model. This was not a very good match. Milano was playing to the crowd way too much and was too “showy”, which is hard to say about someone who is in the ring with Curry Man, considering how much of the same thing he does. In the end Milano got the pin.

Winner: Milano Collection A.T.

To the back with Lauren interviewing Beer-Money, Inc. They debut their new t-shirts which says “Beer Money” and then has an arrow pointing down a bit that says “Play Tag Titles Here”.

After the break…
Time for the Knockouts Challenge match
Raisha Sayid vs. Taylor

If Taylor wins this match she gets a title shot against Awesome Kong. The match went back and forth a bit till Taylor rolled to the outside for a break. Kong hit her with a big clothesline, then Sayid went out and whipped her into the steel ring steps. Back in the ring where Sayid was still controlling things, till she went to the top rope for a moonsault. Taylor moved out of the way and Sayid crashed down to the mat. Taylor took over and went for the pin, but Kong pulled referee Rudy Charles out of the ring to break up the count. She then hit a fisherman’s suplex and got the three count.

Winner: (Shantelle) Taylor

Taylor will get a title shot next week, she will also win the $25,000 if she can win.

Back from the break…
Another video package about Gail Kim.

To the ring for the main event match.

James Storm & Robert Roode with Jackie vs. Samoa Joe & Kevin Nash

This match had nothing to do with Beer-Money, Inc., but instead was all about Joe and Nash. They had a few disagreements throughout the match. In the end however, Nash came in and helped out Joe, then took Storm outside the ring where they would fight. Meanwhile in the ring Joe took care of Roode, hitting the Muscle Buster and getting the three count.

Winners: Samoa Joe & Kevin Nash

Neither man wanted the ref to raise their hand with the other. As they started talking to one another Sting’s music started and the camera’s searched around to see where he was. He was up in the rafters, they showed him once and then went off the air.

This was a not so good show as far as wrestling goes. There were six matches total, but that includes a Bimbo’s Brawl, and too lackluster World X Cup matches, as well as the Beer-Money, Inc. match which was just a set up for the main event match. From an entertainment standpoint, there were some funny moments in the Kurt Angle blind date sequences. That however didn’t make the entire show worthwhile. It is good to see Sting making a return, but who knows for how long or why.

Hopefully next week’s two hour long commercial for the pay-per-view will be better.

TNA iMPACT! From The iMPACT! Zone
Karen’s Return (They give a “title” to each show, so I will share them from now on.)

Wow, the show starts off with a match!

Consequences Creed vs. A.J. Styles

This was a pretty good match from the start which is to be expected with the young fast talent involved. A.J. Styles was actually the catalyst for Creed being signed by TNA. They just went back and forth in a fast=paced manner for most of the match. Out of nowhere (as always, which is the beauty of the move) Styles hit the Pele Kick, then set him up for the Styles Clash into a three count.

Winner: A.J. Styles

Right after the match J.B. was on the ramp trying to get A.J.’s attention. He wanted to tell him that Kurt Angle was out in the parking lot waiting for Karen to arrive.

After the break…
To the back where Karen has arrived and security is holding Kurt back. A.J. tells Karen she is coming to the back and staying in his locker room. She says no, she showed up to do her job.

Back to the ring…
Brother Ray vs. Christian Cage
First Ray grabs a mic to talk about Rhino’s injured neck, and how tonight they will carry Christian from the ring on a stretcher. He also assures everyone that tonight we will see something we have never seen before, and that this is the last night of Christian’s professional career.

After the break…
Christian took over from the start. Hit a flying cross body block from the top rope, but when he went up a second time Ray went up after him. Christian would shoved him down to the mat and then his a frog splash. As Christian continued his assault on Ray in came Johnny Devine with a kendo stick. Cage saw him coming and grab the stick and yanked Devine down with it across his throat. As he chased Devine from the ring Ray came up from behind and suplexed him on the back of his head. Ray now had the kendo stick and used it to hit him over the head with. The ref disqualified him, and he called for Devon to come on out. Devon and Tomko headed down to the ring carrying a table with a glass top. This is the “something you have never seen before” that Brother Ray talked about before the match. They set the table up in a way where it looked like they would put him on Ray’s shoulders on the top rope and drive him through the table. That is indeed what their plan was. Ray drove him down into the table, Cage went crashing through it as the glass shattered everywhere. The medic was already down at ringside to help. The four of them stood in the ring and celebrated.

One note on this portion of the show. TNA needs better trained “medics”. Not for medical purposes, for acting purposes. As he came into the ring you could clearly see blood all over the towel he was carrying, he was wearing a pair of sandals that didn’t have a strap in the back, so not exactly the best choice for hm to be wearing on a night he had to go into a ring covered in glass, and as he tried to help Christian up off his back he couldn’t keep the towel over his back, so we saw there was not a whole lot of blood on Christian. Eric Young and Kaz came down to try and help.

Oh yeah, Winner via disqualification: Christian Cage

Back from break and to the back with JB to ask Kevin Nash about his match with Booker T later in the night. Joe interrupts with a joke about Nash’s bad knees. They have a discussion about how Nash is preparing for his match.

Back to the ring for the Awesome Kong $25,000 Challenge.
Back from the break…
This week they chose Danielle from Buffalo, New York. Danielle got one wild slap in while Kong dominated. Taylor, last week’s opponent, was also in the audience and ready to go. She hit the Awesome Bomb and got the three.
Kong then turned and called out Taylor. In she came and they started throwing wild fists everywhere. Taylor got in a shot on Raisha Sayid. Then security ended it all. Jim Cornette was there to agree with Taylor, that if she could be Sayid she would get another match with Kong.

Next, a video package chronicling Angelina Love’s rise through the ranks and independents.

Back from the break…
World X Cup Match – Team Japan vs. Team Mexico
As they were introducing the match down came Frank Trigg to the ring with a mic. He was out there to call out A.J. Styles. Out came A.J.. It was obviously a setup, but I expected Angle to jump A.J. in the ring again. Instead, once Styles headed out to the ring Kurt went to the locker room where Karen and JB were. In walked Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. Once A.J. got to the ring Trigg pointed out that he was dumber than he thought he was and pointed to the video screen which was now showing a shoving match in the back. All they did was deliver the brown paper bag treatment and then leave as we went to commercial again.

Back from the break…
Now back to the World X Cup match. I was going to be upset if it got bumped for the Angle crap.
Before the match they introduced Team International, and Team TNA.

Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino vs. Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero

OK, this match was way too fast-paced to go into much detail, but WOW! I really wish New Japan Pro Wrestling had a U.S. television deal. I can watch AAA wrestling from Mexico every week on one of my DirecTV channels, but I have yet to see any wrestling from Japan on my TV. It was a really good match. In the end Team Mexico prevailed with Rey Bucanero hitting a corkscrew senton bomb while Doi was outstretched across Ultimo Guerrero’s knees.

Winners: Team Mexico – Rey Bucanero & Ultimo Guerrero

By the way, since each source I went to to find information about these two guys expressly pointed it out, as did Mike Tenay. . . Ultimo Guerrero is in no way related to the famed Guerrero wrestling family. His name is simply meant to mean The Last Warrior.

To the back with Lauren interviewing So Cal Val and Jay Lethal to ask about how they are feeling after Sonjay Dutt’s actions. Apparently they are postponing the wedding cause now Val isn’t quite ready.

Back from break…
Out came Sonjay Dutt with a mic. He also had little kids going around with their tambourines collecting money with him. He sat in the ring on a rug and goes on about how they were donated to the Save So Cal Val Fund. He leads everyone, or tries to anyway, in a prayer to set Val free from the shackles that Jay Lethal has on her. Out came Val, followed by Jay Lethal running down to get Dutt. They fought a bit before Dutt ran from the ring.

Next, to the back to reveal Booker T’s new locker room. The room was covered in red velvet! JB was amazed with everything he saw, a pic of Booker with Muhammad Ali, Booker’s red velvet jacket with a leopard print collar. Booker went on to point out how everything that is going well in TNA is due to him. He also pointed out how Nash is beneath him.

Back from the break…
Time for Rough Cut again… with Matt Morgan. He talked about his college basketball career at Monmouth College in New Jersey, and then transferring to a college in Hawaii for three years. After college he got a tryout with the Indiana Pacers. However, by the time he finished college he knew what he really wanted to be doing was wrestling. He watched the first Tough Enough ads on MTV, and sent in a tape and got picked to be on the show. To be continued…

Now to the back with JB with Tomko talking to Kurt Angle about his problems with Karen, and trying to get him to stop obsessing. In walks Team 3D to say the same things to him. They however added on comments about how ugly Karen is. Saying how Kurt is “an Olympic Gold Medalist and should be eating filet mignon and drinking champagne, but instead he chose chop meat and Colt 45.” Now Ray and Devon are going to play matchmaker for Kurt. They are going to set him up on a couple of blind dates next week.

Back to the ring…
Anything Goes Knockouts Bimbo Brawl
(Mickie) Moose vs. ODB

Moose came out with a shopping cart full of stuff, while ODB came down with a riot helmet on, and carrying a shovel. The match went on and on, they used a few weapons here and there. ODB got choked out with a chain for a bit. ODB then grabbed her shovel jabbed it into Moose’s mid-section, hit her across the back with it, then over the head with another shot. She got a near fall, but somehow Moose kicked out. ODB laid a chair in the middle of the ring and attempted her running powerslam, but Moose broke free and shoved her into the corner. When moose charged in she got a boot to the stomach. ODB climbed to the second rope and dove off, but Moose moved. Moose waited for her to get up and turn around, kicked her in the mid-section and then delivered a DDT onto the chair. Moose then got the three count.

Winner: (Mickey) Moose

No Disqualification Match
Booker T vs. Kevin Nash

Kevin Nash image
Kevin Nash vs. Samoa joe coming to a TV near you, soon.

Shortly after the match started Samoa Joe walked down with a chair to sit at ringside. They fought for a bit in the ring, then it moved out to the floor. No one really took control of the match, they just went back and forth. After the break… Nash was smashing Booker’s head into the steel ring steps repeatedly, he then rolled him back into the ring, and got a series of two-counts. Nash went for a clothesline, but Booker ducked and then hit him with a heel kick. Booker then stomped on him a few times as Nash rolled out of the ring. Back out onto the floor where Booker has total control now… well until Booker decided to go and tell Joe to give him his chair. Joe didn’t like that but the ref got between them before anything could happen. As Joe went to sit back down Booker charged over and pushed him out of the chair, then grabbed the chair and hit Joe across the head. Booker then went back in the ring and got Nash down, and then grabbed the chair again. He jabbed it into his mid-section multiple times, and got a two-count. He then smashed the chair over Nash’s head. At this point Joe came into the ring and started throwing punches. He whipped him into the corner, charged in and hit the high knee lift to Booker’s head. Joe then waited for Booker to get back to his feet and charged in with Sweet Chin…oops, a Superkick. Booker moved and the kick landed on Nash’s chin. Reminiscent of when Shawn Michaels landed an “accidental” Sweet Chin Music on Big Sexy. Booker then got Joe out of the ring and went for the pin and got the three count.

Winner: Booker T

Joe then came back in the ring with a chair, but Booker was out and up and headed up the ramp. Nash was now up and pissed. Security hit the ring quick to keep them separated.

Well, the show had its moments, but wasn’t all that good. The Styles – Creed was good, and the World X Cup match was really good. The rest wasn’t much worth it. Nash – Booker was a good match. . . about ten years ago. I pretty much could have done without the rest of the matches on the show. Hopefully next week’s show will be better.

TNA iMPACT! From the iMPACT! Zone

The show started off with Jay Lethal calling out for Sonjay Dutt to meet him at The Pink Taco.

Into the ring for the first match…
Booker T vs. BG James
As BG walks down high-fiving the fans Booker T jumped him from behind. He rammed his head into the guard rail, then the steel ring steps. Back in the ring BG tried to mount an offense, but Booker hit a heel kick to keep control. We then flashed to the back where Joe and JB are sitting and watching the match on a monitor. BG tried to fight back again, but Booker just kept dominating. He hit the Axe Kick and got the three count.

Winner: Booker T

In the back with JB and Samoa Joe. As Joe questioned JB as to why he thinks he can’t beat Booker in walks Kevin Nash. In the end it turns out that Joe convinced Nash to have a match with Booker T to show him next week, rather than just telling him things.

First Round World X Cup Match
Team International Davari & Tyson Dux vs. The Motor City Machine Guns

This match was not nearly as good as the Japanese team vs. the Guns last week. I think it was the fact that it was Davari and Dux and not two great Japanese wrestlers. Team International is a bit lacking in this tournament to say the least. Just cause a guy was in the WWE doesn’t mean he was good, they probably should have taken a pass on Davari. The match went back and forth quite a bit. It was so exciting that they interrupted the match by going to the back to show A.J. Styles attacking Tomko in the weight room, and then into a commercial. After the break… Sabin was being dominated, but got the tag to Shelley who came in with some fast-paced offense leading up to a Frog Splash and two-count. All four battled in the ring. Dux hung himself up on the Tree of Woe, those that watched will understand why I said he hung himself there. He climbed to top rope and Shelley pushed his foot out from under him. He didn’t land quite right on the turnbuckle, so when Shelley moved on to the next move on Davari, Dux had to swing his foot over the top rope, and then drop back. Even with the cameras trying to get away from him it was clear he did it all himself. He was then hit with a dropkick from both Shelley, and Sabin. Shelley hit Davari with a Tornado Reverse DDT, and then for the pin.

Winners: Team TNA – The Motor City Machine Guns

Then we go outside to the dark parking lot where A.J. is jumping someone that looks like Kurt Angle. It turns out that it was Frank Trigg, and not Angle.

Next was a video package chronicling Gail Kim’s career. Followed by an interview with Karen Angle from her home in Pittsburgh which ended with her storming off after saying she’d be in Orlando next week.
Then we head to the ring for Jim Cornette to announce a special challenge that was made by LAX. They want to have a Fan’s Revenge Match against Robert Roode and James Storm. Some might remember the last one TNA had with Jeff Jarret. Twelve TNA fans will surround the ring and be given leather straps. They will act as lumberjacks, and when someone comes out of the ring they can whip away. After Hector signs the contract for LAX, they call out Roode and Storm. Instead, out came Jackie, her and Salinas almost got into it before Cornette stopped them and made a match for later in the night.

After the break…
The Awesome Kong $25,000 Fan Challenge
Kong chooses a blonde named Taylor. Taylor hit her a few times before she even got over the guard rail. Once over she got into the ring and ran a bit, avoiding contact with Kong. Kong eventually got a hold of her and went for the Awesome Bomb, but Taylor escaped by going through her legs. She hit a dropkick, and then charged in, but Kong leveled her with a tackle. Raisha Sayid then handed Kong a chair, as she turned around Taylor dropkicked the chair into Kong. She then hit Kong across the back with the chair three times before the ref took the chair away. She hit another dropkick, went to the top rope and came off with a missle dropkick into a two-count. Kong rolled out to the floor, and Taylor went to the top rope again to launch herself out on top of Kong. Kong caught her and rammed her into the steel ring post, then stood her in front of the post and tried to hit a roundhouse punch, Taylor moved and Kong punched the post. She hit a couple punches and then charged in, but Kong knocked her down with a clothesline. Rolled back into the ring, Kong went for the Bomb again, but Taylor got out of it again. She kicked her in the face, then hit the ropes and tried for a hurricanrana, but instead Kong lifted her up and hit the Awesome Bomb and got the three count.

Winner: Awesome Kong

To the back again, this time to see Rhino laying on the ground crashed through a table with Team 3D standing over him celebrating. Rhino was to be Christian Cage’s partner in the main event match against Team 3D.

Back from the break…
JB is in the back with Sonjay Dutt who is now heading over to The Pink Taco.

Next up a Challenge Match…
Kaz vs. Alex Koslov

As can be expected this match was filled with fast-paced action. Kaz was on the ring apron when Koslov hit a kick to the back of Kaz’s head which sent him to the floor. Koslov then springboarded himself to the outside and got very high off the top rope crashing down onto Kaz. The match then went back and forth some more. Koslov put a move on Kaz that Mike Tenay called the Perestroyka. It was basically a surfboard type maneuver done with Kaz inside the ring, and Koslov outside on the ring apron, hanging off for more leverage. Soon after Kaz would put Koslov on the top turnbuckle, Koslov fought back with a couple elbows, and shoved him down to the mat. As Koslov launched himself off the top rope Kaz was charging in and ducked. Koslov then hit a kick to the back of Kaz’s head, and went for a springboard splash, but Kaz moved. Kaz then hit the Wave of the Future and got the three count.

Winner: Kaz

To the back with JB and Christian Cage to talk about what he will do since Rhino can’t wrestle. Cage said, “When people like you see a problem, I see a phenomenal opportunity.”

Next up is another video segment of Rough-Cut with Matt Morgan. He talked about his childhood and high school basketball career. He signed a letter of content with Monmouth College in New Jersey so that he would be a started in his first season. He then points out that he was chosen for the McDonald’s All-Star Game, which is a game for high school seniors. He didn’t get to play though, mostly due to the fact that some of his teammates were very, very good. His teammates names, Vnce Carter, Stephon Marbury, and Kevin Garnett.

Then we head back to The Pink Taco. Dutt tries to apologize. It doesn’t work, and they start fighting on the stage. Lethal choked him with a cord, then dropped an elbow on him. He then started throwing everything in the place at him. It ended with Lethal spearing Dutt “right through the door”. The door was just some of that sheet metal that can be seen hanging all around the iMPACT! Zone.

After the break…

Salinas, Shelley Martinez, Ariel image
LAX member, Salinas

Jacqueline vs. Salinas

Salinas was controlling the match early, but then went to the top rope for a flying cross body block, but Jackie moved. She then took over with kicks and punches, flung her across the ring by her hair. Then she threw her out of the ring to the floor, and whipped her into the guard rail. Threw her back in the ring, hit a T-Bone Suplex. Salinas managed to get Jackie up on her shoulders, and hit her with an electric chair move. She then connected with a couple of clotheslines, and got a near fall. Jackie turned it around with a DDT, and then slapped on a submission choke hold which got Salinas to tap out quickly.

Winner via submission: Jackie

Jackie then took out a belt and whipped Salinas repeatedly, and also got in a shot on referee Slick Johnson.

After the break…

Christian Cage & A.J. Styles vs. Team 3D

Cage and Styles met Team 3D halfway down the ramp, and they fought outside the ring a bit. Brother Ray and A.J. finally got in the ring so that match could start. They fought back and forth for awhile. 3D hit the What’s Up move on A.J. and then went out for a table, as they were approaching te ring with it Cage dropkicked it, sending Team 3d to the floor. A.J. then catapulted himself off of Christian’s back, over the top rope and down onto Team 3D. After the break… A.J. gets hit by a neckbreaker off the top rope by both members of Team 3D. Team 3D was firmly in control, they whipped A.J. into the corner followed by Ray whipping Devon in after him. A.J. moved and Devon crashed into the corner, kicked Ray in the head and got the tag to Cage. Cage hit a double clothesline, and then went for the Unprettier, but Devon blocked it. Cage countered and drove Devon’s head into the mat, and got a near fall. He then whipped Devon into the corner, and as Ray charged in to get him, he moved, sending Ray crashing into Devon. Ray and Devon hit a reversed 3D,but then A.J. made a blind tag. He springboarded into the ring with a flying forearm that hit Devon. HE then went over and knocked Ray off the apron, and slammed Devon down. A.J. and Christian went to the top rope and came down on Devon with a double headbutt. Ray was back in on time to break up a pin. A.J. was picked up on Ray’s shoulders and devon climbed the ropes, they hit the Doomsday. A.J. kicked out of a pin. Ray then climbed to the second rope and was about to jump down onto A.J., but Cage came over and delivered a lowblow, followed by a hurricanrana from the top rope. Devon hit a Deathdrop on Cage, then Ray blocked a flying forearm from Styles. They were waiting for Styles to get up so they could hit the 3D, but instead Styles connected with the Pele kick to Devon’s head. A.J. then shoved Ray into the ropes while Cage pulled the top rope down, sending him crashing to the floor. A.J. springboarded into an inverted DDT, followed by a three count.

Winners: Christian Cage & A.J. Styles

Out came Frank Trigg who was earlier beaten on by A.J. because he thought it was Kurt Angle. As they argue Angle comes in from behind and attacks Styles, while Team 3D pulls Cage out of the ring. He then slapped on the Ankle Lock for a minute or two. The show ended here.

TNA Impact Wrap Up 6-12-08

June 16th 2008 13:16
Samoa Joe image
Samoa Joe gives Booker a title shot, and his locker room?

TNA Impact! from the Impact Zone

First a sad note. After last Sunday's Slammiversary pay-per-view while they were disassembling the TNA set and packing things up to head home tragedy struck. TNA independent production contractor Kevin "Angus" Sinex was killed. This week's Impact is dedicated to Sinex. Our condolences go out to Sinex's family and friends.

The opening match of the show is a somewhat surprising one. . . It is the TNA Heavyweight Chapionship match between Samoa Joe and Kaz. Thought this would be much later in the show.

Kaz vs. TNA Champion Samoa Joe

Kaz came into this match with about a dozen stitches in his forehead after Slammiversary's match with Petey Williams. The match started off with a quick pace with Kaz controlling the tempo, but Joe would eventually take control as he charged the corner and hit Kaz in the head with one of his high knees. Joe followed with a clothesline and into a nonchalant pin, but Kaz reversed it and slid Joe onto his shoulders for a two-count. Kaz took control at this point after dodging a bunch of Joe's punches. He sprung off the ropes with a leg drop and got another two-count. Joe turned it back around using his power . He hit him with a power bomb and held onto him for a another near pinfall. Next Joe slapped on the STF submission hold, but Kaz slowly crawled to the ropes. They fought back and forth and as Kaz tried to climb to the top rope Joe hit him with a Pele type kick and picked him up for the Musclebuster. Kaz reversed it though and hit him with the Flux Capacitor into a pin, Joe kicked out at the last second.Kaz charged at Joe near the ropes but was flipped out to the ring apron, he then leaped back in grabbing Joe for a DDT, but Joe picked him up and placed him on the corner turnbuckle and delivered a couple punches. He again went for the Musclebuster, this time however he hit it and got the three-count.

Winner: Samoa Joe

As he had his hand raised in victory out came Booker T, but then we headed to the commercial.
Back from break...
Booker congratulates him on beating Kaz, sarcastically of course. As usual, he feels like he was screwed at Slammiversary. After a bit he started whining about his locker room again.

To the back with Lauren... and Kurt Angle
Kurt is holding a FedEx letter saying how Karen has signed a contract as a TNA Talent. This means he cannot lay a hand on her due to their no tolerance to male on female violence. So instead Kurt has "put out a hit on his(my) wife". That's right, he says he isn't the only one in TNA that doesn't like her, and before the end of the night one of the TNA Knockouts will leave her lying on her back.

After the break...

JB in the back with new TNA Talent for the World X-Cup, the captain of Team International, Daivari. Yes, the same Daivari you know and are indifferent over from the WWE. His team will consist of Doug Williams, Alex Koslov, and Tyson Dux.

Riasha Siyad came out at the end to say Kong was taking the week off but would be back to punish one American at a time next week.

Back to the ring... A World X-Cup Preview match

Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino representing Team Japan
vs.
The Motor City Machine Guns - Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley representing team TNA

In case you didn't know, this match is going to be fast-paced. Shelley and Doi started off with mat action and reversal after reversal which ended in a stalemate. They both tagged in their partners who came in with a speedier bout of reversal as they bounced from one ring rope to the next. This time however it was stopped by Yoshino's dropkick to Sabin's chest. He tried to go to the ropes again, but Sabin met him with a heel kick to take control. He then quickly tagged Shelley back in. They double-whipped him into the ropes, Shelley hit an Atomic Drop, Sabin immediately followed with a dropkick to the knee, Shelley then came flying in with a reverse chin-lock as he flipped into position, holding Yoshino's head in position for the incoming dropkick of Sabin's, right to the face. Shelley got a two-count. Yoshino fought right back with an Octopus submission that followed some quick spins around Shelley. Sabin came in and started punching Yoshino to try and break the hold, but Doi came in to get him, and tossed him over the top rope to the floor. It was time for a double team. Doi held out Shelley's wrenched arm while Yoshino leaped high off the top rope and came down with a double stomp right on his arm. Double whip into the ropes, double elbow, flipped him back up and whipped to ropes again, Dio hit a drop-toe hold followed by an instant dropkick to the face from Noshino. Noi then put Shelley into a submission hold to hard to explain! The double team just went on and on, and so did the excitement! They whipped him into the corner, Yoshino charged but was lifted to the outside of the ring and to the floor, in came Dio who was met with a type of Bookend move, face first into the middle turnbuckle. Sabin tagged in and took over on both men, using then to batter one another. He hit a clothesline from the outside and got a two-count. Shelley came in for their own double team moves. They hit the ropes on opposite sides with Dio in the middle, he ducked and they clotheslined each other. Noshino back in with a brainbuster suplex on Sabin. Then from the corner he got on his shoulders spun around, locked his ankle around the nexk of Sabin and went over the ropes backwards holding him in a sort of reverse Tarantula as Dio came in with a dropkick. Shelley came in to try and help, to no avail. There were bodies running and flying everywhere! Noshino went to the top rope and got so high off the top rope that I can only explain his move as a stomping missle dropkick, it was still only good for a two-count. Sabin was back in to help. He whipped Noshino into the ropes caught him for a suplex, but instead he was laid onto Shelley's shoulder in a backbreaker type poistion. Sabin hit the ropes and came off grabbing him around the neck as they both drove him into the mat face down. Sabin hit Dio with a kick on the ring apron. They then tuned up the...wait wrong guy... they hit Noshino with a double superkick, and Sabin got the three-count.

Winners: The Motor City Machine Guns

Why oh why do they not sign these international guys to TNA contracts for more than just the World X Division tournament? Especially these two guys from Japan. This was the most exciting fast-paced match I have seen on TV in a long, long time. Plus I would like to reiterate my comments about having the need to have X Division matches on Impact!

To the back with JB to congratulate Karen Angle on her contract. Out came Angelina Love and Velvet Sky to point out how the rumor is that Karen is making twice as much as the rest of the Knockouts. While calling her some names that needed to be bleeped they pointed out there is a pecking order that they are at the top of. They then proceeded to try and put the paper bag over her head, but were stopped when A.J. Styles came walking out. He wanted to say how anyone that wanted to get to Karen had to go through him.

After the break...

Lauren in the back with Kevin Nash. He explained how when Booker touched him he had invited him into the match. As he is explaining how he doesn't want to be the one to say that he is the reason that Joe is still champion, Joe headed to the ring with a mic calling him out. Joe tells him to say whatever it is he has to say. Nash said maybe the only reason he still has that strap on his shoulder is because the big man (he) took care of business and that maybe he should thank him. Joe said maybe Nash should thank him for riding his coattails week after week. Nash went on to say how Joe can't beat Booker T, but it isn't a physical thing, it's a mental thing. Joe said, "Kevin, to be quite honest, you can take your opinions put them together with your predictions and stick them up your a**." He then walked away.

Back from break...

JB in the back hunting for Kurt Angle. He walked in on a meeting between Kurt, Scott Steiner, Petey Williams, and most importantly Rhaka Khan, and was shoved out the door by Steiner.

TNA World Tag Team Championship Match

Cowboy James Storm with Jackie & Robert Roode vs. LAX - Homicide & Hernandez with Hector Guerrero (Salinas was on location at a Knockout photo shoot)

Homicide took control of the match over Storm, even after getting the tag to Roode, Homicide still dominated. It took Jackie distracting the ref for Storm and Roode to get the upper hand, when she did Roode interfered. Then Jackie used a belt to choke Homicide while the ref was busy with Storm and Hector Guerrero. Homicide managed to get the tag to Hernandez who slingshoted himself in, hitting Roode with a shoulder block, followed by a clothesline to Storm. Roode charged again but was Back Body Dropped. Hernandez took off his shirt and wrapped it around Storm's neck and flung him across the ring. He then hit Roode with a running Power Bomb into a pin, but Storm broke it up. All four were fighting in the ring now, Storm was flipped to the outside and hit the steel ring steps on the way down. As Hernandez fought off Roode he was kicked in the back of the head by Storm who was up on the ring apron. Homicide then hit Storm with the Gringo Killa on the floor. Meanwhile in the ring Hernandez hit a facebuster on Roode, then gets him up on his shoulders while Homicide climbed to the top rope. Roode fought out though and shoved Hernandez into Homicide. Storm was now wrapping the belt around his boot. Hernandez got Roode setup for the Border Toss. As he turned Storm hit him with a Superkick, using the foot with the belt on it. Roode gets the three count. Robert Roode & Cowboy James Storm win the TNA Tag Team Titles. . . or do they?

Hector complained to the ref and explained just what happened. Amazingly, the ref overturned his decision, but rather than just disqualifying them, he restarted the match.

Hernandez was still reeling, and getting beat down. They tried whipping him into the ropes, but he turned it around with a double clothesline. Then he got Storm up on his shoulders for a Backbreaker. Roode came in but was slammed to the mat. Homicide then hit a Cinton Bomb. Storm charged at them and knocked Homicide to the floor, then climbed the ropes and leaped off, only to be caught by Hernandez who then hit him with a big Power Bomb which lead to the three count.

Winners: LAX

Roode would come in the ring with a steel chair, first hitting Hernandez, then Homicide, and finally Hector. Then out came an America's Most Wanted staple, the handcuffs. They handcuffed Hernandez and Homicide to separate corners. Apparently they didn't bring a third pair for Hector, instead they used black tape to tape Hector to a corner. Roode, Storm and Jackie each got a belt and started whipping LAX again and again. They even whipped the ref a few times. They then raised the title belts in celebration before leaving the ring.

To the back in the makeup room where The Beautiful People are fighting with ODB and Gail Kim.

After the break...

Velvet Sky vs. Gail Kim

Gail jumped her on her way to the ring. In the ring Gail takes over using some fast-paced offense. Sky finally turns it around with a rake to the eyes and a dropkick to Gail's injured knee. Sky got a one-count, Kim tried to comeback, but her knee gave out. Sky then put the Figure-Four Leg Lock on her, but Gail rolled it over. Sky got to the ropes to break the hold. Kim then hit a couple of clotheslines and climbed to the top rope. She came off with a dropkick, but Sky moved and she crashed to the mat. Sky covered her for a two-count, then tried to give her the "brown bag treatment", Kim stopped her with a kick to the head. She then hit Sky with a reverse neckbreaker and got the pin. She then finished off by putting he paper bag over Sky's head.

Winner: Gail Kim

After the break...

World X Cup Preview
Alex Koslov vs. Curry Man

This match was fast, and somewhat fun, but a bit more silly then the previous X Cup match. In the middle of a fast-paced exchange of whips, leapfrogs, and duck unders Koslov stopped the action by raising his hand to get Curry man to stop and proceeded to do a Russian dance. They went back to the action briefly, but then Curry Man did the same thing, different dance. In the end Koslov hit a Side Russian Leg Sweep, went out to the ring apron and launched himself back into the ring with a big splash onto Curry Man for the three count.

Winner: Alex Koslov

To the back with JB and Sonjay Dutt. When asked for his comments on what happened at the wedding on Sunday he responded by saying no comment.

Joe walked in at this point to confront Booker T. He said he heard him, and he has his title shot at Victory Road. As he walks off he turns to Booker and says, "You are right, it does smell like piss in your locker room." He then tossed him a key and said, "Here use mine. I won't be needing it anymore."

Back from the break...

Sonjay Dutt dedicates his match to So Cal Val.

Dutt vs. Consequences Creed

Creed controlled early on, as Dutt kept stopping to blow kisses to the camera. Dutt then hit a low blow and went to the top for the Hindu Press (a double forward flip off the top rope into a splash), into a three-count.

Winner: Sonjay Dutt

Out came Jay Lethal to beat on Dutt. After Dutt escaped Lethal grabbed a mic and said next week they'd have a match back at the Pink Taco where they had his bachelor party.

Lumberjack Match
Kurt Angle vs. A.J. Styles

I am not sure why they would try to redo this match so soon after an incredible match this past Sunday at Slammiversary. This time they added lumberjacks outside the ring. On Angle's side was Tomko and Team 3D, while on Styles's side was Christian Cage, Rhino, and Matt Morgan.

Styles took over early using some fast moves, Angle would rollout to break the momentum. He rolled to the side where Cage and Rhino were and took a shot from each of them before they threw him back into the ring. Angle would charge at A.J. but he stepped to the side and shoved him through the ropes to the floor. This time all three lumberjacks got in a couple shots. Back in the ring where A.J. would get a two-count after a flying forearm off the top rope. Angle would then send A.J. out to the floor where he would duck clotheslines from Tomko and Devon, then land a kick and punches on Brother Ray before he rolled back into the ring unharmed by the lumberjacks. A.J. would come up with another two-count after Angle missed a dropkick. A.J. would hit a dropkick and go for another pin, but Devon dragged the ref away from the count. Angle sent A.J. to the floor again, this time Team 3D and Tomko got to him, then the other lumberjacks came over for a free for all. Team 3D hit Rhino with a 3D on the floor. During the break medics came out to attend to Rhino. Styles would get suplexed, then block a German suplex. He then hit a clothesline, charges the corner with a forearm, and hit Angle with a unique suplex, followed by a two-count. A.J. hit a nice arm drag and a hurricanrana into a pin, but the ref was distracted again leading to just a two-count. Brother Ray got up on the ring apron but was met with a kick to the head form A.J.. He then reversed an Olympic Slam and rolled Angle up for a pin, again the ref was distracted and Angle kicked out which sent him right into Ray on the apron again. He snapped A.J.'s neck across the top rope. Angle took advantage and hit the Olympic Slam into a three-count.

Winner: Kurt Angle

As the match ended everyone started fighting. Team Angle had the numbers advantage with Rhino being gone. They setup one table standing in the corner, and one set upright in the ring. They laid Cage out on the table, and were about to whip Morgan into the other table, but then Abyss's music started playing. He fought off everyone till just he and Tomko were left in the ring. Tomko attempted to chokeslam him, Abyss blocked it and grabbed him for a chokeslam of his own, right through the table. Now they were fighting all over the Impact Zone. Back in the ring were Angle and Styles. Styles hit the Pele kick, and sets up the table where he lays Angle. He climbed to the top rope but as he leaped off Angle moved and he crashed through the table. Angle paused and then slapped on the Ankle Lock. At this point Karen came out and gets him to stop, then begs Angle to hit her. He wasn't going to fall for it, but as he said earlier there was a TNA Knockout that was willing to help him. Out came Awesome Kong. She grab her by the hair, Angle gave her the thumbs down and Kong delivered one punch to knock Karen down. Angle dragged A.J. over to be next to Karen as the show went off the air.

This week they managed to get seven matches in, much better. Some of the matches were however lacking. The match of the night was easily the World X Cup Preview match between The Motor City Machine Guns and Dio & Yoshino from Japan. We need to keep these guys on TNA on a regular basis. Alex Koslov has some promise too, I would like to see him be a training step for Vladimir Koslov. Vlad would get his first losss since joining the Double-Double E. The tag title match was a pretty good one too. Nice to see a ref change his decision, even if he did do it with no proof at all, and only the word of Hector. The Angle - Styles match this time around was nothing spectacular. It was actually a big letdown right after what might be a candidate for match of the year from Slammiversary.

Things are looking up, more quantity of matches, less crap in between. They have also gone from no X Division matches to multiple ones in a single show, including two really good wrestlers from Japan. Another note about the Japanese team, put them in masks and called them Saffron Man, and Oregano Man if that's what it takes to keep them in TNA. Was Christopher Daniels so bad that he needed the Curry Man gimmick that he uses in Japan to salvage his TNA career? Also, how is it that Daniels lost the career ending match, but yet we lose Senshi and not him?

TNA Impact Wrap Up 6-5-08

Gail Kim image
TNA Knockout Gail Kim is on her way back from her knee injury.

TNA Impact from The Impact Zone

For a change we get right into a match.

Booker T & Robert Roode vs. Rhino & Christian Cage

Booker and Roode controlled the match from the start other than a few short bursts of offense from Christian. Roode try to hit a clothesine but missed this gave Christian the chance to turn it around. He hit him with an inverted DDT and then got the tag to Rhino. He would dominate Booker T, hit him with a spinebuster and get a two count before Roode broke up the pin. Cage came in to take care of Roode. Booker started to comeback but Rhino ducked a scissors kick and hit him with a Gore. When he went for the pin Team 3D came in to interfere.

Winners via DQ: Rhino & Christian Cage

They were setting up the tables. When A.J. Styles came down to help. He pounded on them, and hit them with a double clothesline. By this point Rhino and Christian were up and fighting again. They would clear the ring. Styles grabbed the mic and pointed out how they aren’t even close to even, meaning that them coming out to help him last week was much more than what he had just done. Goes on to say how they were like brothers not too long ago, but right now he’d settle for just being on the same page. His focus then turned to Kurt Angle, telling the four that were just chased from the ring to tell him that at Slammiversary he is going to “beat the piss out of him. I’m not out to pin Kurt Angle. I’m out to hurt Kurt Angle.” He finished up saying how he was going to take care of Tomko later in the night. Jim Cornette was out to say he was right he did have a match with Tomko, and it would be one on one because Kevin Nash would be the special ring enforcer.

Next up we go to earlier in the day where J.B. interviewed Samoa Joe training in the ring. He asked about Kevin Nash and if he trusts him or not. He said how when he sees him tonight he will ask him and see what his answers are.

After the break…

The Beautiful People being interviewed by Lauren again. They went on and on about how Velvet Sky will be facing ODB in a Street Fight.

Poor Lauren was then approached by Awesome Kong again. This week Raisha Saeed said Kong will cripple someone from the audience.

Out to the ring for the Street Fight.

Velvet Sky vs. ODB

ODB came to the ring carrying a plastic spit cup for her chewing tobacco instead of her flask. Sky got in her face right at the start and ODB threw the contents of the cup into her face. Sky tried to escape the ring and ODB gave chase. She was jumped from behind by Angelina Love, but fought her off and then went back to fighting Sky on the floor and up into the crowd. They would use water bottles, soda cans, and even cardboard signs to beat on one another. They headed back to the ring and ODB rolled her in. She then started to climb the ropes, but Love grabbed her foot to slow her down. The double team was too much and Love and Sky took over. Sky would get a two count, and then go for an Octopus submission hold. ODB would toss her off and begin overpowering her and brawling with her. She then hit her with the fall-away slam. Love got up on apron to distract her. Sky almost crashed into Love on the apron, but stopped in time, until ODB dropkicked her from behind, launching her into Love. She hit her with a running powerslam and got the three count.

Winner: ODB

Angelina Love came in and grabbed her from behind for a faceplant. Out came Roxxi to help out, once they beat Roxxi down Gail Kim came out with her knee taped up. Just when they seemed to get the upper hand on the Beautiful People out came someone we had never seen in TNA before, her name Mickie Knuckles. She hit Roxxi with a T-Bone Suplex, and then Gail Kim with a DDT. She grabbed Gail Kim and held her prone while they put the paper bag over her head.

Now to Jay Lethal’s bachelor party. Black Machismo came out looking for Leaping Lanny Poffo, saying that he knew he had set this all up. For those that don’t remember Poffo was the Macho Man’s brother, he also went by the name The Genius for a time. The party went on, James Storm showed up for the free alcohol and then passed out. B.J. James gave him some words of advice about marriage, then Shark Boy came up to get the party started.

After the break…

And now for Eric Young searching for Elvis again. This week he was in Graceland. He left a ticket to Slammiversary at a statue of Elvis.

They then listed each match that would be at Slammivesary on Sunday.

Now time for part three of the interview with Sting. Mike Tenay says when he thinks of Sting’s career, he has to think of Ric Flair. Sting says “In the top five big matches of my career, he was in at least three of them.” He went on to talk about their first match at the Clash which went 45 minutes and was commercial free, when he won the World Title for the first time. He gave Flair credit for putting him on the map in professional wrestling. He then got to talking about Flair’s retirement, and end with contemplating his own, saying that going out in the same year as Flair and Brett Favre might be good.

Then more hyping of the pay-per-view.

Next up an X-Division King of the Mountain Match, a preview of the KotM match on Sunday. The winner gets a shot at the World Title(not the X-Division Title) next Thursday night.

Curry Man vs. Jimmy Rave vs. Chris Sabin vs. Johnny Devine vs. Kaz

Explanation of a King of the Mountain Match. Five competitors fight to be the one to hang an object (belt, the X-Division X symbol) from a hook high above the center of the ring to win the match. You are not eligible to hang it until you have scored a pinfall on one of your opponents. If you are the one being pinned you must go to the penalty box on the ring floor for a period of two minutes.

The action was fast and furious at the start of this one. Jimmy Rave took Kaz over the top rope and to the floor with him, Sabin shot across the ring and launched himself through the ropes onto Rave. Johnny Devine was atop the penalty box and did a moonsault down onto Kaz and Sabin. Afer the break… Kaz was in the corner with a ladder in front of him and Jimmy Rave took a second ladder and smashed it into the first, in turn hitting Kaz. Also during the break Rave got a pinfall on Curry Man, making him eligible to hang the X and win the match, and sending Curry Man to the box. Rave attempted to climb the ladder and hang it, but Sabin knocked him off and then got a pin on him, making Sabin eligible, and sending Rave to the box. Sabin went up immediately but Kaz threw a ladder at his legs and knocked him down. Sabin got up and used the X as a weapon on Kaz. Next Kaz and Sabin would climb up ladders side by side, both would land harmlessly on the mat on their feet. Kaz would then hit his Wave of the Future on Sabin, face first into the ladder. Curry tossed Kaz who landed on a ladder badly. In came Devine to hit Curry Man, then suplex him onto a ladder. Rave was released from the penalty box, while in the ring Sabin used a ladder to ram Devine into the ropes. Sabin then hung Devine from the Tree of Woe, place a ladder in front of his face and backed off to the opposite corner to do his great hesitation drop kick into the waiting opponents face, or in this case, into the ladder. After the break… Curry Man set Rave up for a Superplex, then Devine climbed up and made it a tower suplex. At the same time Kaz and Sabin were battling atop the penalty box. Sabin attempted to put Kaz up on his shoulders but Kaz battled back. Then Kaz looked around and held Sabin in a front face lock he was attempting to hit the Flux Capacitor from up there. Luckily for both their careers Sabin blocked it and battled out with a few elbows. Sabin then leaped from the top of the penalty box and hit Curry Man in the ring with a flying cross body block. Devine spotted Kaz and tried to hit him with a ladder while standing in the ring. Kaz moved a bit which left the ladder resting on the penalty box on one end, and the corner ring post on the other. Kaz jumped onto his end of the ladder sending the other end up into the face of Devine. Kaz then set the bottom of the ladder up on the top rope and used it as a sort of fulcrum as he sat on it back into the ring, the ladder crashed down onto Rave, and Kaz also felt the pain of the move due to the impact of the landing. He was able to pin Rave, making Kaz eligible, and sending Rave to the box. Immediately after that Devine got Kaz for a three count, making Devine eligible, and sending Kaz into the box. Now only Curry Man is not eligible yet. Devine setup a ladder and tried to hang the X. Sabin would block his ascent. Devine would place Sabin between the bottom two rungs of the ladder and then hit him with a dropkick to the head, and try to climb the ladder again. This time Curry Man came up behind him and maneuvered him into position for his Spice Rack, into the three count. Curry Man is now eligible, and Devine is in the box. Curry Man would toss the only one outside of the box, Chris Sabin, out of the ring and then attempt to climb the ladder. Rave and Kaz were released from the box just in time. Kaz stormed the ring climbed the ladder and knocked Curry Man to the floor, while grabbing hold of the X. He was just a step or two away from being able to hang the X and win the match. He climbed and hung it uncontested.

Winner: Kaz who now gets a World Title shot next Thursday.

Out came Kong for her challenge. Tonight there were three volunteers. Strangely JB recognized them. First was Amber O’Neil, next Becky Bayliss, and finally Daffney (she was David Flair’s deranged girlfriend/manager) from the old WCW days. Kong picked Daphne who put in her mouth guard and signed the waiver. If she wins she gets $25,000 and a title shot against Kong.

After the break…

Daphne had a shot for about 2.4356 minutes, and got in quite a few punches on Kong. However Kong came at her with a flurry of fists and then hoisted her up onto her shoulders for the rack move that almost broke Christy Hemme in half awhile back. At one point Daphne’s foot came around to touch the back of her head. Kong then threw her out of the ring, grabbed her legs while she was on her back and swung her hard into the steel guard rail. She then tossed her back into the ring like a rag doll that had said something bad about her mother. She hit her with the Sit Out Power Bomb and got the three count.

Winner: Awesome Kong

Then it was time for the next Abyss visit. He returns in three more days.

Lauren talks to Nash next about being special ring enforcer. In walked Joe to ask what his intentions are at Slammivesary. After a bit of talk Nash handed Joe his baseball bat and turned around, saying that if Joe wanted to end their relationship, then he should end it. Joe simply turned him around and said that if he were to come for Nash that he wouldn’t need the bat and he certainly wouldn’t need him to turn his back.

Another visit to the bachelor party. Sonjay Dutt has telegrams from the possible Groomsmen at the wedding. The first one reads, “I will be at Jay Lethal’s wedding as long as Frankie is a ring-bearer.” Signed, Koko B. Ware. The next one reads, “Laaal laaaaal”, signed George The Animal Steele. The last one reads, “Kim-Chee will eat the fish, but I will eat the human.”, signed Kamala. Dutt then brings on the stripper, and the stripper is. . .(dramatic pause to go be sick in the other room) Kip James!

Six-Man Tag Team Match

Lance Hoyt with Christie Hemme, Kip James, and Cowboy James Storm with Jackie
Vs.
Matt Morgan, & LAX – Homicide & Hernandez with Salinas and Hector Guerrero

This one started off quick with Homicide getting the upper hand over James Storm after a couple minutes. Apparently Hector has given him the OK to do the Three Amigos in honor of Eddie. He hit two of the three then tagged in Hernandez who came in and caught Storm halfway through the third suplex on his shoulder for a back breaker. He pinned hi for a two count with Kip James coming in to break it up. He picked up Storm into a bear hug and then went over for Homicide to tag back in. Homicide came in and went over to James, who was back on the ring apron, and did the DX move telling him to “Suck It!” Homicide would go to bounce off the ropes only to have Jackie grab his feet. This gave Storm the opening he needed. He tossed Homicide out to the floor where Jackie started hitting him with knee shots to the head and chest while Storm kept the ref busy. Over came Salinas who was shoved away by Jackie and then held back by Hector. Storm got a two count, then put Homicide on the top rope where he tried to hit a tornado DDT, but Storm pushed him off. Hoyt tagged in and went for the pin, only a two count. In came James who kept control of the match over Homicide. In came Storm again, they would both hit clotheslines simultaneously. Homicide was able to finally make the tag to Matt Morgan. He rushed into the ring, hit Hoyt on the ring apron with a big boot to the face, then hit a succession of three clotheslines, to James, then Storm, then James again. He then headbutted Storm to the mat. He hit a side slam on Storm, and then took James by the hand and climbed to the top rope. He ten performed The Undertaker’s “Old School” move, complete with the motion of the finger across his throat signifying the end was near. While Morgan was celebrating Hoyt had climbed up to the top in the opposite corner. Morgan turned and Hoyt hit a backwards moonsault. As he celebrated a bit much Hernandez came in the ring, when he turned he was hit with a spinebuster. James would try to charge Hernandez from behind but got side stepped and sent into the corner. Hernandez followed in with a splash, the Storm tried to splash Hernandez but missed and hit James instead. He then put his shirt around Storm’s neck and flung hi across the ring. Homicide then joined him in the ring, they both bounced off the ropes and launched themselves one over and the other between the ropes and onto Hoyt and Storm waiting on the floor. Still in the ring, Morgan charged at James and got a boot to the face. Morgan hit him with a kick to the mid-section then picked him up onto his shoulders and spun him off, sending him slamming face first onto the mat. Morgan then got the three count.

Winners: Matt Morgan & LAX

To the back for JB with Petey Williams, Scott Steiner, and Rahka Khan to talk about Little Petey Pumps match with Kaz this Sunday at Slammiversary. Steiner talked the entire time. When Petey went to talk JB said they were out of time. He grabbed the mic and started saying how he is the X-Division Champion and as long as he has a mic and is talking no one has a choice but to… Into a commercial we went.

After the break…

Live, via satellite Kurt Angle from Hollywood, CA, and Karen Angle from Pittsburgh, PA. It was the same banter with the cheating with AJ added in again. Then we go to AJ who says nothing ever happened. It also seems The Phenomenal One’s fire is back.

Back from break and to the bachelor party with Ace Young American Idol finalist who introduces the cake. Surprise, surprise, Christy Hemme jumped out of the cake. Then a guest who wasn’t there at the party sent a gift and ODB is delivering it, in rolls a box. Sonjay opens it and pulls out a python, it was obviously from Jake The Snake Roberts, who will apparently be at the wedding Sunday.

Back to the action, Special Ring Enforcer Kevin Nash comes out to the ring.

Tomko vs. A.J. Styles

As Styles makes his ring entrance Tomko goes to the floor, and AJ unexpectedly flips over the top rope crashing down onto him. He then started hitting him with kicks and punches. Finally they get in the ring where AJ keeps control of the match. The crowd was solidly behind Styles again. Tomko tried to mount an offense a couple times but Styles just beat each attempt back. Then Tomko flipped AJ over the top rope, it looked like AJ hit his arm on the mat on his way to the floor. Back from the break… Tomko worked on AJ’s arm and shoulder during the break. In the ring Tomko and AJ bounce back and forth on the ropes leaping and countering, till AJ hit one of his high dropkicks. (Rivaled today by only Randy Orton’s.) After a couple flying forearm smashes AJ sets him up for the Style Splash, but out of the corner of his eye he spots Robert Roode coming down the ramp. Nash went right up after him. The distraction allowed Tomko to slip out and hit AJ with a Choke Bomb into a pin and two count. While Nash was still beating on Roode he saw Booker T about to climb into the ring and went to stop him. He would lay Booker out on the floor. In the ring AJ hit a great DDT on Tomko, followed by an attempted punch by Tomko that AJ ducked and then hit the Pele Kick. It’s good to see the real AJ Styles back in the ring. He then hit the frog splash and got the three count.

Winner: The Phenomenal One A.J. Styles

Nash came up to help raise A.J.’s hand, and Booker T came in with a chair and jabbed it into Nash’s mid-section. A.J. saw it and came to help almost instantly, but then Tomko came up behind A.J.. Out came Rhino and Christian Cage, then Roode was in the ring, there was fighting all around. Only one person from the King of the Mountain match was missing now. In came Team 3D to help out, but LAX was quickly in the ring. Now we were actually only a few people short of the entire Slammivesary lineup being in the ring. Out came Samoa Joe next. There was fighting everywhere, in the ring, on the floor, on the ramp. Everyone went to the outside of the ring other than a few, Booker was being beat on by Joe, and the only other inside the ring was Nash. He grabbed a chair and swung it at Booker T, but Booker moved and Joe got hit across the shoulder and arm hard with the chair. The show then went off the air with a very upset Joe looking at Nash and screaming, “What are you doing?!”

It is amazing what adding just one match can do for a show! This week we had six matches, if you are counting the Kong match. Not only did they add a match, but they made good matches! I wonder if someone at TNA stumbled upon my ramblings from the past few weeks. They pretty much fixed things just the way I said to. The additional match, an X-Division match, they even made the Kong match a bit more interesting by bringing in actual professional wrestlers as her opponents instead of just Knockouts in training. Even with the big running commercial for Slammiversary they made the show entertaining and fun. If they keep going in this direction the show is really looking up. This is the reason people like Christian, Kurt, and Booker T came here.

Tune in tomorrow for the Smackdown! Wrap Up and the Slammiversary Preview.

TNA Impact Wrap Up 5-29-08

May 31st 2008 12:07
Angelina Love Velvet Sky image
The Beautiful People Angelina Love & Velvet Sky

TNA Impact from The Impact Zone 5-29-08

The show started off with news that A.J. Styles has news for us later in the night.

Now, we pick up where we left off last week, Team 3D and Booker T coming out to the ring. Brother Ray did all the talking. Explaining how they are the bad guys, and since Tomko is getting ready for his match later in the night and Kurt Angle is in Hollywood "filming his next project", that he, Devon and Booker will be the bad guys for now. Then he ponders "Are we really the bad guys or is it this man?" Down comes a big picture of the Phenomenal One A.J. Styles, it is a copy of the card that will be part of a series of trading card coming out soon. He then went on to call Styles among other things, a wife stealer, and a home wrecker. Then Booker spoke up about how he is royalty, and went on to whine about things he was promised when he came to TNA, and what he got instead. He went on to say how at King of the Mountain he would make everyone bow down and kiss his royal feet. Luckily as soon as Devon got the mic and started talking about Hector Guerrerro and LAX, their music started and they headed down the aisle. Hector did all the talking for them and explained how they now have a match at Slammiversary against Team 3D. then they headed to the ring, but before they got anywhere Christian Cage's new tweaked entrance music started. Out came the Instant Classic and Rhino. Christian told Booker that his past doesn't matter, and he doesn't care if he is a five-time, five-time, five-time, five-time, five-time WCW Champion, and that nothing will matter till he becomes the TNA World Champion. Out next comes Samoa Joe in the crowd with a mic, his comments were directed mainly toward Booker T. In the end he invited Christian, Rhino, and LAX to join him in the ring to and put their differences aside and "stomp these clowns worse than they did to A.J. last week". This sent Team 3D and Booker running up the ramp, but A.J. came up behind them with a steel chair. He hit Devon across the back with it, then jabbed it into Ray's ribs, and finally swung it at Booker's head, but missed. He then charged at Brother Ray throwing punches and knocking him down.

Then back to JB with Karen Angle who was invited to the show by A.J., but she has no idea why.

Back from the break...and now almost 25 minutes into the show,

And to the back with Lauren for an interview. With her are Black Machismo Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, So Cal Val, and American Idol finalist Ace Young. Ace is there to announce he will be performing at their wedding at the Slammiversary pay-per-view. As they walked off to the ring for their match Lauren began to follow, but was stopped by Awesome Kong reaching out and grabbing her by the hair. Kong wanted to point out she was going to beat up another American in the crowd tonight.

First match of the night,

Black Machismo Jay Lethal & Sonjay Dutt vs. The Rock N Rave Infection (The bell finally rings on the first match at 29 minutes into the show.)

Not only is Ace Young at ringside, Hermie Sadler is there as guest commentator. Lance Hoyt takes control briefly, then tags in Jimmy Rave, this is when Jay Lethal takes over. This didn't last long either as Dutt and Lethal have a discussion in the ring, Hoyt came up with a big boot to the back of Dutt's head. The infectious disea..I mean Infection was now solidly in control. Lethal tried to takeover but was tripped from the outside by Christy Hemme while bouncing off the ropes, right after that Hoyt hit the ropes and Ace Young tripped him. Lethal would then get the pin on Rave.

Winner: Black Machismo Jay Lethal & Sonjay Dutt

As Dutt went to leave the ring Lethal told him to get back in the ring because he has something to ask him. It starts off sounding like he was gonna ask him if he is jealous of the relationship, but instead he just wanted a yes to his question he asked last week about Sonjay being his best man. Sonjay said yes. Then it was time for Ace's surprise. His surprise was a music video starring Jay and Val.

Back to Lauren with Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. They put a paper bag over Lauren's head and said they will do that to all the TNA Knockouts. After that it got a bit annoying.

Angelina Love vs. Roxxi (Apparently they shortened her name now.)

Roxxi took control right away and just kept pounding on her. She then chased after Velvet, but was hit with a clothesline from Love. Love would hit a big boot, then get a two count, then throw a tantrum on the ring mat. As Love charged her Roxxi hit her with a fall away slam, then a series of clothesline and a discuss forearm. Velvet Sky distracted her again, but was knocked to the floor this time. Roxxi would try for the Voo-Doo Drop but Love raised a knee to her face to put a stop to that. Love would distract the ref while Sky sprayed something in Roxxi's eyes. Love then hit her with a face buster and the pin.

Winner: Angelina Love

They ended it by putting a paper bag over her head and through in a few kicks for good measure. At this point ODB and an injured Gail Kim on crutches headed to the ring. Halfway down the ramp ODB grabbed one crutch out from under Kim and charged the ring.

Jim Cornette in the back with JB to scream at him about Kong wrestling the fan last week. JB then took out a piece of paper to show him the ratings had soared during the Kong match. Cornette then OK'd another Kong vs. fan match as long as "the clueless putzes sign a release form". In came Booker T and 3D to do more complaining about his dressing room. Cornette headed off to the ring.

Back form the break...

Time to check in with Eric Young in Memphis searching for Elvis at Sun Studios... To Be Continued at Graceland next week.

Cornette in the ring with "updated information" for the King of the Mountain PPV. Newly signed matches, A.J. Styles vs. Kurt Angle, and Team 3D vs. LAX. Before he left the ring out came Kevin Nash. Big Sexy ends up making a deal with Cornette that he will go remove Booker and Team 3D from his office in exchange for being the special guest enforcer in the King of the Mountain match at Slammiversary.

Now another video from Abyss. The doctors are releasing him in ten days. Which just happens to be June 8th, the day of the Slammiversary PPV.

One hour and five minutes into the show, two matches. Next Kong vs. fan.

Awesome Kong vs. Leeva Bates

Awesome Kong dominated and won, what a shock.

Winner: Awesome Kong

Note: Last weeks's fan was actually a student at Team 3D's wrestling school. I am sure Leeva Bates is in a similar situation.

Now to Cornette's office where 3D and Booker are talking to JB. In walks Nash to evict them. He gets the job done with his "buddy Louis", a baseball bat he pulls from his shirt.

King of the Mountain Qualifier Match - Rhino vs. James Storm

As they are showing a video history of Rhino vs. James Storm a fight between them breaks out in the back. Rhino is hitting him with everything in sight. Storm turned it around after Jackie hit Rhino with a shovel from behind. Security comes to try and break it up, it didn't work. After the break they are fighting their way down the ramp toward the ring. Rhino would hit a suplex on the metal ramp. Finally they got to the ring and heard the starting bell. Things went back and forth a bit. After another break Rhino had taken control. As he went for the Gore, Storm sidestepped it and hit him with the Last Call (superkick). Rhino went to the floor, Storm and Jackie had to lift him back into the ring for a pin and a two count. Storm then tried for another Last Call but missed, and Rhino hit the Gore this time and then got the three count.

Winner: Rhino

To JB interviewing Tomko, about A.J. and his match with Christian coming up next. Tomko wrapped up his comments by saying, "how does he say it? If you don't know... you know what, screw it! Christian, you're just dead!"

King of the Mountain Qualifier Match - Tomko vs. Christian Cage

Tomko would jump Christian from behind while he was in the middle of his ring entrance. Tomko took control with his power and blocked every bit of offense Cage tried to mount. Back from the break, Tomko hit Christian with a powerslam and got a two count. Tomko continued to overpower Christian at every turn. He hit him with a delayed suplex and went for the pin, another two count. Then he put him up on the ropes in the corner and went for a kick. Cage blocked it and hit a Tornado DDT to turn the tide. He then hit an inverted DDT, and went to top for the finisher, but Tomko moved out of the way. Tomko then hit a clothesline and got another two count. Christian went for the Unprettier but Tomko reversed it, then Christian reversed it, then Tomko hit him with a big chokeslam. Christian kicked out again. Tomko would put him in the corner and start pounding on him, but Cage power bombed him out of the corner and went for the pin, just a two count again. Tomko would get him up into a back breaker, and then tossed him from his shoulders into a neck breaker. A few more reversals followed, then Cage hit the Unprettier, followed by the three count.

Winner: Christian Cage

Now to the back with JB, A.J. and Karen to hear A.J.'s news. He wants to do it in the ring. Before the commercial we see Kurt Angle is actually in the building and not in Hollywood. Karen comes out to ring, then A.J.'s music starts, but we see no A.J.. To the back where Kurt is beating on him. After he lays A.J. out Angle heads to the ring to confront Karen. He was telling her to tell the world how she ruined their marriage, how she cheated on him with A.J. like a prostitute. He got slapped across the face as he was about to call her a whore. This angered Kurt who then took off his suit jacket. That was just enough time for A.J. to get to ringside. Styles landed punch after punch followed by stomping on Angle. Then Team 3D, Tomko, and Booker T all rushed to the ring. Angle would then put the ankle lock on him. Just when it looked like it would be a replay of last week, down came Christian Cage to help. He was overpowered quickly with the numbers being 5-2. For a second week in a row the five of them were left standing victorious in the ring at the end of the show.

This week they got in the same as last week, four matches plus the Kong vs. fan thing. Total match time equaled less than 18-20 minutes of the two hour program. Not to mention that we have seen all four of these matches at least once before. The biggest drama in the show just might have been whether or not Eric Young was actually going to find Elvis this week. They are going to have to make some changes for the better if they expect their two hour weekly commercial for their next PPV to keep getting ratings.

Also, while I was looking for the proper spelling of Leeva Bates I found something strange. WWE.com actually had a post with the Impact match results, and it didn't look like in the past when one company or the other would give away results from the other show before it aired.

TNA Impact Wrap Up 5-22-08

TNA Impact from The Impact Zone 5-22-08

The show started with Team 3D talking to someone we don't see. They say they have his back, and he has their back, and that's how it is.

In the wake of Team 3Ds attack on Hector Guerrero at the end of last week's show which left him laying on the ground bloody, Homicide wanted a match with Brother Ray.

Brother Ray vs. Homicide

This match went back and forth a bit until Brother Ray climbed the ropes (and we all know from history that Dudleys other than Spike don't fly so well.) He said, "Hector Guerrero this is for you." before he jumped from the ropes and hit nothing but canvas. At this point Homicide took over the match, that is until Brother Devon hit the ring with a kendo stick and slammed it across his back. Devon got the table setup in the ring. Homicide's Latin American Xchange partner Hernandez rushed to the ring to aide his partner. Hernandez took control of things momentarily. Then we found out who Team 3D made their deal with earlier, Booker T came in and hit Hernandez with a super kick to turn things around. Team 3D smashed the kendo stick and Tag Team belt into Homicide and Hernandez's skulls. Both members of LAX were now bloodied. Brother Ray then put Homicide through the table.

Winner: Homicide via Disqualification

To JB in the back where Karen Angle is arriving where she tells JB to, "Expect the unexpected". Then in came Awesome Kong and Raisha Saeed who handed him a note and told him to read it and they'd be back later. JB mumbled something about $25,000 to wrestle a fan.

Back from the break where ODB talked about her match with Angelina Love coming up next. It included her normal groping of herself, but this time it included her having the interviewer Lauren grab hold to show her that hers are real.

ODB vs. Angelina Love accompanied by Velvet Sky

This match started with ODB spitting whatever is in that flask of hers into Love's face. Love then turned it right around with a boot to the face and distracted the ref while Velvet Sky worked ODB over with a choke hold. She then held ODB to the mat with a sleeper-like hold, until she stood up with Love on her back and rammed her into the corner till she let go. ODB then hit the fallaway slam. The match then came to an end when ODB got too close to the ropes and Velvet Sky hit her in the head with her flask, followed by the pin.

Winner: Angelina Love

The Beautiful People picked up a pair of clippers to give ODB a new hairdo, but before they could Roxie Laveaux charged the ring and saved ODB from the haircut. She was then ready to clip Angelina Love's hair when TNA Senior Referee Rudy Charles took the clippers away. Roxie was not happy and kicked Charles, and then hit him with her Voo-Doo Drop.

After the break...
Samoa Joe and Kevin Nash came to the ring to announce Joe's four picks for the wrestlers to be in the qualifying round of the King of the Mountain. Joe's first pick, The Phenomenal One A. J. Styles. Next two picks, as he grouped them together, The War Machine Rhyno, and The Instant Classic Christian Cage. His fourth and final pick, Booker T. After his last pick Kevin Nash looked shocked and grabbed the microphone. He wanted to know how he is supposed to have his back if he isn't in the match. After a bit of back and forth banter, Nash says he hates when someone doesn't do what he's told to do, and when that happens the machine breaks down, and he won't allow that. He then left the ring without Joe.

To JB in the back, with Kurt Angle and MMA Fighter Frank Trigg headed into the bathroom and chatting.

Back from break...

More interviews with Lauren. This time she has So. Cal. Val, Black Machismo Jay Lethal, and Sonjay Dutt talking about their pending nuptials coming up at the King of the Mountain pay-per-view. Val points out that the Rock N Rave Infection has asked if they can audition to play the wedding. After a bad and luckily short bit of music playing in the background while the RnR pretended to play and sing, Sonjay Dutt said he got American Idol Finalist Ace Young to play at the wedding. He went on to say that Young would be in The Impact Zone next week.

Now onto another disturbing video of Abyss in a straightjacket and padded room. Which he ends by saying it is time to go home.

After the break...

Lauren with Robert Roode talking about his match with Matt Morgan coming up. It was just Roode saying how it is about time that the powers-that-be realized his potential.

King of the Mountain Qualifying Match
Robert Roode vs. Matt Morgan

Morgan controlled this match from the start, until Roode hit him with a chop block and then started working on his leg. Morgan would comeback soon after while absorbing shot after shot from Roode. Morgan would hold Roode in the corner choking him with referee Earl Hebner trying to get him to break the hold. When Morgan did break he turned and grabbed Hebner and threw him down. When he turned back to Roode he was knocked off his feet. Roode would then pin him while putting his feet on the rope for leverage.

Winner: Robert Roode

Back from break again...

Time to catch up with Eric Young who is in Memphis. He was just roaming the streets looking for Elvis, while talking to locals to try and get clues as to where he could be.

Back to the Impact Zone for the continuing saga of How The Angles Turn. Kurt comes out and introduces Karen, down she comes with her own mic. The crowd chants Karen Styles repeatedly while Kurt begins sucking up. Then says that now that she knows her place as a wife, and that the TNA Title comes first. this all leads up to Karen asking for a divorce. It turns to him asking if she is seeing someone, like A.J.. After she says they are just friends Kurt drops to his knees to beg her not to do it. She just dropped the mic and walked away, while he sit in the ring breaking down.

After the break...

To JB in the back again with Kong and Saeed again. JB saying how she can't fight a fan. Saeed hands him the waiver the fan signed. He refuses to be a part of it. Saeed says if he doesn't be part of it that Kong will take care of him instead.

Again we go to Lauren, this time with A.J. Styles. She asks about the Karen situation, he confirms they are just friends. Points out how Tomko is upset about A.J. picking a tag team partner while he was injured in Japan, and asks about the pressure on him in his match against Booker T later in the show. Out comes Tomko to confront him. A.J. stands up to him, and Tomko tells him he can be his own man...but by himself, and walks away.

Back from another break...

We start with part two of Mike Tenay's interview with The Icon Sting. Their topic, Jeff Jarrett.

Then we go to the ring for an explanation of King of the Mountain from JB, this turns into the introduction for the second qualifying match of the night. JB however is interrupted by Kong's music. They force JB to make the $25,000 challenge while Saeed holds a briefcase full of money. He then asks the crowd for a volunteer female who is 18 years or older who would like to challenge Kong for $25,000. A skinny scared looking blonde raises her hand and comes walking down. Her name is Melissa and she is from Erie, Pennsylvania.

Melissa vs. Awesome Kong

It takes about 15 seconds for Kong to get a hold of Melissa. She then tosses her around by her hair, she beats on her a bit and then hits her with the Awesome Bomb. It didn't look like Melissa landed quite right. Her head hit the canvas hard, and her knee came up and hit herself in the face. They called for help.

To Lauren in the back again, this time with Team 3D. Where they said tonight was payback for being screwed out of the titles. They then turn to Booker T who talks about the lack of respect he gets. He then starts throwing stuff around the locker room that isn't up to his standards.

Booker T vs. The Phenomenal One A.J. Styles

This match was back and forth and surprisingly the crowd was behind A.J.. It seemed that each time Styles tried to mount an offense Booker cut him off with a kick or chop of some sort. Then A.J. hit him with a dropkick and then a flying forearm from the top rope. Tomko was now at ringside. Styles thought he had Booker right where he wanted him and went for another top rope move, this time he was pushed from behind by Tomko. Styles crash to the mat, Booker T hit the Bookend, and got the three count.

Winner: Booker T

Tomko then came into the ring. Styles shoved him. When they came back from commercial they are fighting in the ring. Down came Team 3D. Styles was fighting them off for a bit, then Booker T came back in and the numbers were too much. They began beating him down, Tomko hit him with a chain which busted him wide open. The beating continued until Karen Angle came to the ring. she shielded him with her body till Brother Ray pulled her up and she then slapped him, and they intimidated her out of the ring. Karen ran to the back, and the beating continued. Out came Kurt Angle with a chair. . . to save Styles? That was his intention originally, till he saw Karen attending to him. This is when he turned and grabbed her by the hair and they yelled back and forth while the rest of them stood outside the ring trying to escalate the argument. Kurt then turned and hit an already extremely bloodied A.J. in the head with a chair. The show ended with Kurt yelling "This is your fault, Karen!" while holding Styles up to make her look at him.

I still love TNA on the whole. However, their two hour weekly show has gone way downhill, at least it has this week. They need to realize the reason the whole thing worked was because they were DIFFERENT than the WWE. In order to grow and get better the answer is not to be more like the rival organization, but to remain a bit different and make your own way.

Stats:
2 Hour Show
4 Matches (Five if you count the ridiculousness of the Awesome Kong segment.)
There were two different ties in the show where a segment entirely full of interviews and talk was followed by another right after the commercial break.

When Impact was an hour long show they came out and wrestled and fit some talk in. They also used to get four matches in the hour. The two hour show seems to have less content than even the WWE shows. Plus they were more exciting matches than some that they have had recently. Storylines are great, sure, just find the happy medium between the two extremes, and maybe get a few better writers. WCW might still be around today if they didn't try to emulate the competition so much.

Now I must say that the talent is still usually exciting, LAX is a fun team to watch, and it is great to see Matt Morgan finally being able to wrestle without having to stutter his way through interviews and matches. You have more talent in the back every week, so why not bring them out for some matches and get close to six or seven matches in the two hour show. Whatever happened to the X-Division matches on Impact? They would be prefect filler.

Tune in tomorrow for the Smackdown Wrap Up.
