The Wrestling World Mourns the Loss of a Legend - RIP Macho Man Randy Savage, Oooh Yeah!
May 20th 2011 19:34
Macho Man Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth's Wrestlemania moment was also my Wrestlemania moment. I was at Wrestlemania IV to watch the Macho Man win the tournament and become the WWF Champion for the first time ever.
Sad news to report today. One of the greatest wrestlers of all-time has died this morning at around 10AM ET.
Macho Man Randy Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler in Tampa, Florida this morning when he suffered a heart attack which led to him losing control of the vehicle. The Jeep veered across a concrete median, through oncoming traffic, and crashed into a tree.
Savage was transported to Largo Medical Center where he died from his injuries. His second wife of just one year, Lynn Payne was a passenger in the vehicle. She was transported to a different hospital and was treated for minor injuries.
TMZ broke the news not long ago and spoke to his brother, wrestler Lanny Poffo who confirmed the report.
The WWE has released the following statement, “WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of one of the greatest Superstars of his time, Randy Poffo, aka Randy “Macho Man” Savage. Poffo was under contract with WWE from 1985 to 1993 and held both the WWE and Intercontinental Championships. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends. We wish a speedy recovery to his wife Lynn. Poffo will be greatly missed by WWE and his fans.”
It is such a shame to see one of the greats go, and it happens all too often in professional wrestling.
Their father Angelo Poffo passed away March 4th of last year of unknown causes. List of Wrestling Deaths – 2010
