ECW – Charlotte, North Carolina

The show started off with Tazz in the ring interviewing ECW Champion Mark Henry, and his new manager Tony Atlas. Apparently they had a demonstration for us. Atlas got some props from ringside. Atlas had Henry take the frying pan and bang it against the ring post to show it was real. Atlas then asked for someone who thought they were strong to come out and try to bend the frying pan. A guy from the crowd comes in and barely tries to bend the pan. Henry then folded in both sides of the frying pan. As annoying as this all was, it was still rather impressive. Out came Tommy Dreamer, who said, “that was damn impressive.” Dreamer wanted to give it a try. After a few failed attempts at bending the pan Dream took and hit Henry over the head with the pan, which bent it up rather nicely.

After the break…
Teddy Long in the back is giving Tommy Dreamer the night off, and makes him leave the building.

At 18 minutes into the show the first match gets started. Unfortunately it is Mike Knox vs. Shannon Moore. The crowd tired breaking up their boredom by mocking Knox’s resemblance to Hacksaw Jim Duggan by yelling “Ho!” repeatedly. Knox got the pinfall and the win.

Winner: Mike Knox

Back from the break…
Chavo Guerrero accompanied by Bam Neely vs. Evan Bourne

Even Bourne couldn’t make a Chavo match very interesting. Bourne did win though after hitting the Shooting Star Press and getting the three count.

Winner: Evan Bourne

To the back where Henry and Atlas meet up with Colin Delaney and tell him they know he had nothing to do with what Dreamer had done. Then Henry put him in a bear hug, followed by picking him up over his head and bodyslamming him into a big traveling case.

After the break…
Since they were in North Carolina, the main event was The Hardys vs. John Morrison & The Miz

The problem is not even a Hardys reunion could save this week’s show.

Winners: Matt & Jeff Hardy

What a horrible show this was. There were three matches total, one with Mike Knox, another which was just to progress Bourne’s climb through the ranks, and finally a tag team match that was much better when it involved Joey Mercury. It really is ridiculous that the WWE can’t put on a better show than this. I would have rather seen Colin Delaney take on Hornswaggle and Mike Adamle in a triple threat match.

ECW – Baton Rouge, Louisiana

The show started with something worse than Vickie Guerrero in the ring to talk, it was John Morrison and The Miz. I was astounded that they started off with jokes about hurricane relief. It was ridiculous to go into that area and joke about things like that. Finlay came out and interrupted. While he distracted them Hornswaggle came out from under the ring and climbed into the ring behind them. When they turned around he sprayed them with a super soaker.

After the break…
Teddy Long apparently made a match between The Miz and Finlay which was about to take place.

The Miz vs. Finlay

I so dislike The Miz! The match wasn’t very exciting at all. Near the end Morrison ripped the shillelagh out of Finlay’s hand, but Hornswaggle ran along the apron and kicked him in the head. Miz grabbed Horny and dragged him into the ring, he ran, and as Miz turned around Finlay kicked him and then hit the Celtic Cross into the pin.

Winner: Finlay

To the back next in Teddy Long’s office. In walks Armando Estrada still looking for a contract. Then there was a knock on the door, in walked ECW’s newest superstar, Braden Walker. If you have never seen TNA Wrestling before this is the man formerly known as The Wildcat Chris Harris. McMahon as he always does has to give people fake names so he can copyright them, so we now have Braden Walker. Teddy puts the two of them into a match coming up next.

After the break..
Armando Estrada vs. Braden Walker

The match was decent. When Estrada was dominating the crowd was chanting Wildcat. He turned it around and won his ECW debut match, just as Atlas Ortiz did last week. By the way, as you will learn in a minute, Atlas Ortiz’s new name is Ricky Ortiz.

To the back where Teddy is saying hi to Tony Atlas. He makes him the special guest ring announcer for tonight’s main event match between ECW Champion Mark Henry and Tommy Dreamer. Mark Henry then walks in and says hi to Tony. This is the reason he is now Ricky Ortiz, to avoid confusion with Tony Atlas who will be sticking around for a bit.

Back from the break…
An interview in the back with Atlas Ortiz who officially says to call him Ricky Ortiz.
Then after a video package about Matt and Jeff Hardy we see Tommy Dreamer and Colin Delaney in the back meeting up with Tony Atlas.

Back from another break…
Nunzio vs. Evan Bourne

This wasn’t as good a match as I was expecting. Bourne is still a great up and coming talent though. He finished the match with a Shooting Star Press and got the pin.

Winner: Evan Bourne

To the back again where Mark Henry meets up with Tony Atlas and insults him a bit. All setting up what was about to happen.

After the break…
Out came Mr. U.S.A. Tony Atlas to be special guest ring announcer.

ECW Champion Mark Henry vs. Tommy Dreamer accompanied by Colin Delaney

Henry dominated most of the match. Colin grabbed his foot at one point, Henry climbed out to the floor to get him. Tony Atlas stopped him, and put his arm around him as to protect him. Instead he threw Colin into the announce table, taped ribs first. Dreamer came out and was asking Tony what he was doing. While Atlas had his attention Henry hit him from behind and hit the World’s Strongest Slam on the floor. The ref disqualified Henry.

Winner via disqualification: Tommy Dreamer

It is apparent that Tony Atlas is Mark Henry’s new manager.

Mike Adamle mage
Did Mike Adamle take one too many shots to the head during his football career?
Another show with just four matches. At least tonight it was only an hour long show. Mike Adamle made more mistakes. The matches they did have weren’t all that exciting. I think ABC’s new game show Wipeout might be a better hour of TV. Tony Atlas being around might not be a totally bad thing. Seeing Chris Harris’s debut in the WWE was pretty good too. It can only be a matter of time before Ron The Truth Killings shows up in the WWE’s initiative to feature African-American talent more prominently.

Our Night at the Smackdown / ECW Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Well the night started off with a ton of traffic. Not too bright to schedule a show to started at 6:30PM local time when you have to cross through a couple routes that people use to get from downtown to home during rush hour. Once we got there we hit even more traffic trying to get in the door. They only opened like three doors for people to have their ticket scanned and get into the arena. There are 12 doors, open them up and schedule more ticket scanners so people can get in, or open the doors earlier! In this arena there really are no bad seats. I now know the ideal spot for WWE Wrestling at the Tulsa Convention Center is about 8-10 rows directly in front of where we were sitting. The seats however were lined up absolutely perfect across from the entrance ramp, so we got to see EVERYTHING. For those who want a better idea of where they were… directly behind the announce table, but back up off the floor seats about 10 rows in from the wall. I am betting the people near us if we were ten rows closer wouldn’t have been nearly as annoying. The people a row in front of us kept getting up to go for this or that. The girls in the row behind us just went on and on, well the one in the middle did anyway. Trying to explain things to the ones on her left and right. Early on she was naming each wrestler as they showed up in the preshow videos on the Titantron. Problem with that was, she got a few wrong, at one point she identified Bam Neely as JBL. Those that know the two know just how wrong that is. She also despised Maryse apparently, calling her many names I will not repeat here. The one sitting on the aisle directly behind me would have liked a bigger seat, maybe one with a foot rest. I was kicked in the shoulder numerous times by her, a couple of light shoves of my shoulder as she had her foot resting on it was enough for her to get the point after about an hour or so. About half an hour before the show was over there was one other annoying guy one row down and across the walkway from us. He had a few too much beer and stood and stared at someone behind us chanting “You Suck”. It was directed at Edge in the ring talking, but we had all stopped that chant about 5 or more minutes ago. He was attempting to get it started again, but all he was doing was looking like an ass and making it hard for some to hear what Edge was rambling on about in the ring. Enough about the surrounding crowd.

Keep in mind I will be a bit biased since I was actually at the live event, that makes everything a bit more exciting.

Trevor Murdoch image
Trevor Murdoch opening the show in a dark match with Vladimir Koslov, after he sings.
The show started off with a dark match. Out came Trevor Murdoch who was going to sing for us. With it being so close to the Fourth of July he chose “Proud to be an American”. Say what you want, but all along I have felt he can actually sing pretty good. When he came out and as he said he was going to sing most of the crowd was booing him, by the time he was nearing the end of his song most of them were singing along. Then off went the lights and all the sound, his opponent emerged at the top of the ramp, it was Vladimir Koslov.
Vladimir Koslov image
Vladimir Koslov heads to the ring.
Shortly after the match got underway it was funny to see how quickly Trevor had become the fan favorite. It went the same way all of Koslov’s matches have though, He ended it with a headbutt, and pin. Murdoch did give him a much better fight and got a couple of near falls.

After that match it was time for Tazz’s music, he and Mike Adamle walked on down. Tazz to cheers, and Adamle to a chorus of boos.
ECW Pyrotechnics image
We weren't ready for the pyro. Man was it LOUD!
Time to start the shows with some pyro that would fill the arena with smoke for quite some time.

ECW Champion Mark Henry image
Mark Henry makes his way to the ring with his new title belt.
Introducing the new ECW Champion, Mark Henry. He called himself the “Savior of ECW”, since he beat Kane who was heading to Raw with the belt. Down came Tommy Dreamer and Colin Delaney to interrupt. Tommy wanted to be the first challenger for the belt.
Tommy Dreamer, Colin Delaney, and Mark Henry image
Dreamer tries to get a title shot.
Henry had a different idea though, Delaney would get a match with him, and if he wins then Tommy gets his title shot. Colin accepted in an attempt to repay Dreamer for all the things he has done for him.

First match for the televised show, a six-man tag match between U.S. Champion Matt Hardy, Finlay, and Hornswaggle vs. Chavo Guerrero (accompanied by Bam Neely), John Morison, and The Miz.
WWE Superstars prepare for match image.
The combatants get ready for their six-man tag match.
This match was the normal type match that involves Hornswaggle. Finlay and Hardy did all the work, Horny was tossed into the tag champs by Finlay one on the floor, and he also hit a tadpole splash. Finlay ended up getting the pinfall against The Miz after he had knocked Neely off the ring apron with a shot from the shillelagh.

To the back in Teddy Long’s office, he is talking with a new talent for ECW, Atlas Ortiz. In walks Armando Estrada to talk about his contract in a loud manner.
Atlas Ortiz, Armando Estrada image
Atlas Ortiz introduces himself to Armando Estrada.
Teddy puts him in a match against Ortiz coming up next. After the break, and yes even in the arena you get a commercial break, but when there it is just quiet downtime where they make occasional announcements. Ortiz looked pretty good in his debut. It is strange, about a week ago I was surfing around and looking at some wrestling pics from the developmental areas of the WWE, and I cam across Ortiz’s pic. I turned the laptop so my wife could see it and joked, “Look Honey, it is Carlito’s new tag team partner,” due to his hairdo. Now he shows up on ECW a week later. He did win the match against Estrada, he did look to have a layer of flab on top of his muscle though, seeing it live.

The final match that was part of the ECW show was the Mark Henry vs. Colin Delaney match. It wasn’t very exciting as can be expected when putting a 100 pounder in there with a Silverback. Needless to say The world’s Strongest Man won the match.

It was intermission time, although no one pointed out this fact. The refs from ECW and Smackdown began switching over the ring from one brand to the other. It was interesting to watch.
Refs dismantle WWE ring image
The Ref's change the ring over from one brand to another.
The obviously change the ring skirting because it clearly says ECW or Smackdown on it, and it is also easy to realize they change all of the ring ropes in between, what I didn’t expect was they removed the entire ring mat and replaced it too. This whole process did take a while.

I will wrap up the ECW show here before continuing. Yes, it was more exciting because I was actually there, but even in the arena with them the ECW show needs some improvement down the road. Otherwise they will be looking for a new network to air it on, too. I did watch the recording of the show that I had recorded from Sci-Fi, and realized it wasn’t all that interesting. I also didn’t make it on camera for the ECW portion. (I won’t know till after watching Smackdown! on Friday if I made it on their show.) Also, I know it would make things a bit harder, but they need to separate the live shows. I have a second solution to that comment later.

I am going to end this post here, but if you would like to hear about the rest of the show click this link below. Please know this next post will contain the outcome of all the matches that will be aired on this Friday night’s Smackdown! episode. If you don’t want to know who won before you watch the show, please don’t read it.

ECW from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas

The show starts off with Teddy Long in the ring talking about McMahon’s “accident”. He then introduced ECW newest roster member that was acquired in the draft, Matt Hardy.

U.S. Champion Matt Hardy & C.M. Punk vs. WWE Tag Team Champions John Morrison & The Miz

Hardy and Punk controlled early until a double team by the champs, but The Miz couldn’t keep control for long. Hardy got the tag to Punk who took over with his kicks. After Morrison came in to try and interfere again, so did Hardy. They each charged a corner one with Miz in it, the other with Morrison in it, Hardy hit a clothesline, while Punk connected with a knee. Then they both hit running bulldogs and met in the center of the ring as they high-fived one another in mid move. Punk then missed a shot from the top rope and when he went to bounce off the ropes Morrison held them open so Punk would fall through and to the floor. Back from the break… Miz was in control, they kept control using double team after double team. Punk finally fought out and got the tag. Hardy came in with a couple clotheslines and then went to the top rope. He came crashing down on Morrison with an elbow and went for the pin, but only got a two-count. He then hit the Side Effect into a pin, but Miz broke it up. Punk came in and clotheslined Miz over the top rope. Hardy went for the Twist of Fate but was shoved off into the ropes where Miz grabbed his feet to trip him. Morrison hit a springboard roundhouse kick to the head and went for the pin, but Hardy kicked out at two. Hornswaggle came out from underneath the ring to distract Miz, Punk hit Miz, sending him off the apron to the floor. Morison came in after Punk, but Hardy stopped him and hit the Twist of Fate. Hardy got the three count.

Winners: Matt Hardy & C.M. Punk

After the break…
Extreme Rules Match
Shelton Benjamin vs. Kofi Kingston

They went back and forth a bit, but then Kofi hit a high dropkick which sent Benjamin to the floor, nd then slingshotted himself out onto him. Benjamin battled back on the floor, hitting him with a mic to the head, he then whipped him face first into the steel ring steps. Shelton then went under the ring for the trash cans, and a chair. He rolled Kofi into the ring, then hit him in the ribs with the edge of the chair. He then lifted him high for a Gorilla Press and slammed him down across his knee for a Gutbuster. He then threw one of the trash cans at him, and wedged a can between the top and second ropes in the corner. Kofi tried to battle back, but Benjamin used the can to hit Kofi a few times. Then he suplexed Kofi onto one of the trash cans. Benjamin then tried to wear him down with a waistlock from behind, but Kofi battled out. Benjamin sent him into the corner and hit a couple of splashes, but as he charged in a third time Kofi hit him in the head with the first of about five shots with the trash can lid. Kofi then went after the chair, but as he swung it back Benjamin delivered a kick to his ribs. Benjamin then got him up for a Powerbomb, but Kofi reversed it and sent Benjamin head first into the trash can that was wedged between the ropes. He then hit him with the Trouble in Paradise spinning roundkick to the back of the head, and got the three count.

Winner: Kofi Kingston

Back from the break…
They reviewed the Draft, and then previewed Night of Champions, then went to another commercial.
Really back from break this time…

Mike Knox vs. Evan Bourne

They sort of fought back and forth, with Bourne trying to use his speed, and Knox his power. Knox got the upperhand. Bourne hit a couple of chop blocks on his knee, and a missle dropkick from the top rope, followed by a hurricanrana. As he came in with a running heel kick Knox caught him and slammed him down across his knee with a brackbreaker. He then hit him with that sort of swinging faceplant move, and got the three count.

Winner: Mike Knox

After the break…
Out came The Big Show to do commentary.

ECW Champion Kane vs. Mark Henry

WWE Kane image
Kane will defend his title at Night of Champions against The Big Show. . .

These two behemoths fought back and forth both using their power. Henry got Kane in a bear hug, as Kane tried to battle out with forearms shots he was driven back into the corner. Henry then charged in but was met with a big boot. After a couple of uppercut shots Kane went to kick him in the mid-section, but Henry caught his foot, and Kane hit an Insiguri kick to the back of his head. He went in and got a near fall, and then climbed to the top rope, but Henry ran into the ropes to knock him off balance. Kane would crash down to the mat where Henry picked him up for the World’s Strongest Slam and got the three count.

Winner: Mark Henry

It was the typical show leading up to a pay-per-view. The Hardy – Punk tag team was pretty good, but other than that it wasn’t a very good show. I still don’t see why Mike Knox is on a WWE roster. He and The Miz should make a tag team and wander off into some Independent. Mark Henry beating Kane was a nice way of working him into a triple threat match for the PPV.
I am not exactly sure what the draw of the show is going to be with no Punk or Kofi. Show as champ, and Evan Bourne aren’t going to be enough. Especially with Mike Adamle as Tazz’s sidekick.

WWE ECW Wrap Up 6-17-08 - Results

June 20th 2008 11:42
ECW – San Jose, California

Well, right from the start it looked like a waste of an hour. The main event seemed to be a “confrontation” between Kane & The Big Show. Another match mentioned at the start of the show was another rehash of C.M. Punk vs. John Morrison. Then it all turned around. . .
